Charlestown, a continuing care retirement community managed by Erickson Senior Living in Catonsville, Md., offers team members a robust array of benefits that empower them to build rewarding careers, establish a healthy work-life balance, and plan for their future with financial security. Even more rewarding is the opportunity to impact lives for the better.

Dasline Raphael’s passion for helping people makes her perfectly suited for the position of certified medical technician at Charlestown’s on-site assisted living and memory care center.

“I love coming to work,” says Raphael. “The residents feel like family to me. They know me and we laugh together. I enjoy their company and I feel like I am making a difference in their lives.”

Raphael began her career with Charlestown in February 2024. It was her first experience with the Erickson Senior Living lifestyle and one that made an everlasting impression.

“When I interviewed for the job, it was the first time I had ever been on Charlestown’s campus,” says Raphael. “I was amazed at how big the community was. It was incredible! I was very impressed.”

Opportunities abound

Charlestown’s grow-from-within culture is reflected in its focus on career pathing and upskilling through tuition assistance and support for training and education. A culture of employee recognition and the community’s supportive and collaborative environment empower staff, make them feel valued, foster innovation, and open doors to career development and expanded job opportunities.

“To have a job where you can make the difference in someone’s life is rewarding. But having a team and a community that cares about you is a way of life here,” says Executive Director Don Grove. “We want to make sure that our team members have every opportunity to grow, succeed, and build a career.”

Raphael has experienced that supportive atmosphere from day one.

“Everyone I have met is so friendly. I feel like the people I work with really care about how I am doing. They encourage me and are there for me if I have questions,” Raphael says.

Charlestown also offers unique perks such as an on-site Employee Health and Well-being Center where staff can get health screenings and vaccinations. For those enrolled in an Erickson Senior Living health plan, the company’s Wellness Fund offers up to $260 in reimbursement for personal wellness expenses like home exercise equipment, gym memberships, fitness classes, running shoes, and weight loss programs.

Team members have many opportunities to socialize and have fun at work with one another and the people living there. Events, such as staff picnics and potlucks, theater productions, dance competitions, and theme parties, are commonplace on the lively campus.

Raphael sees a bright future ahead.

“I love my job! The people are wonderful. The community is wonderful. I'm very grateful to be working here,” says Raphael. “Whenever anyone asks me where I work, I am proud to tell them I work at Charlestown.”
