Charlestown Wood Shop Donates To Marine Toys for Tots

December 16, 2019

More than 125 handmade toys will go to less fortunate children this Christmas

Catonsville, Md. – December 16, 2019 – Residents at Charlestown, a senior living community managed by Erickson Living, have been working hard all year in the on-campus wood shop to handcraft more than 125 toys for less fortunate children. This week, they donated those toys to the Marine Corps' Toys for Tots Foundation just in time for the holiday season.

On Thursday, December 12, about a dozen craftsmen from the Charlestown Wood Shop displayed their creation in the lobby of Charlestown's Cross Creek clubhouse. Residents, staff and guests enjoyed the opportunity to marvel at their handiwork before the Marines paid a visit to Charlestown to collect the toys.

Rear Admiral Gordon Piche, who spent his career in the United States Coast Guard before moving to Charlestown with his wife Jane last year, organized this year's donation.

"We have quite a few types of toys: trucks, cars, airplanes, animals, action toys, doll-size furniture and the list goes on!" Piche said. "Some of the toys are quite sophisticated."

In addition to the handmade toys, Charlestown was also able to contribute a number of store-bought toys to brighten then holidays for local children, thanks to the generosity of Erickson Living staff.

The annual Toys for Tots donation is a special event at Charlestown each holiday season, as residents embrace Erickson Living's mission to share our gifts to create communities that celebrate life.
