Charlestown Treasure Sale Raises More than $36,000 for Community Programs

August 28, 2019

Catonsville, Md. – August 28, 2019 – Resident volunteers at Charlestown, a continuing care retirement community developed and managed by Erickson Living, raised $36,366.13 at last week's Treasure Sale. All proceeds from the event benefit community programs at Charlestown, including the Benevolent Care Fund, Scholars Fund, Chapel Concert and Staff Appreciation, as well as numerous resident clubs.

Charlestown's Treasure Sale provides a unique opportunity for shoppers from the retirement community and local area to score bargains on gently used clothing, jewelry and accessories, furniture, small household items, electronics and appliances.

The Treasure Sale is typically held on a quarterly basis, but had been postponed in recent months due to construction related to the repositioning of the John Erickson Conference Center, where the Sale is held. It was clear from the large crowds that shoppers missed the incredible shopping experience over the last few months.

"We were thrilled to bring back the Treasure Sale to this beautiful new space. We are proud of this Sale's tremendous success and grateful to all who helped make it happen," said Patti Santoni, Director of Philanthropy at Charlestown. "This achievement could not have been possible without the countless hours and hard work of more than 300 resident volunteers, along with teamwork from Housekeeping, Security, Maintenance, Dining, Communications, Grounds and Philanthropy."

Charlestown set a record for the most money raised by a Treasure Sale last fall, reaching $37,529.20 in funds for community programs.

In addition to the quarterly Treasure Sale, Charlestown residents operate three on-campus stores whose proceeds also benefits these programs. The Ladies' Boutique sells gently used women's clothing, the Treasure Chest sells gently used personal and household items and small appliances, and Treasures Unlimited sells gently used furniture.
