Residents and staff join moment of remembrance

Catonsville, Md. – June 26, 2020 – On Friday June 19, Juneteenth, Charlestown's Diversity and Inclusion Council hosted a Moment of Remembrance to honor those who have lost their lives prematurely due to acts of racial injustice, discrimination and violence. Charlestown is a continuing care retirement community managed by Baltimore-based Erickson Living.

The event began with a prayer from Sherry Parrish, Director of Resident Life at Charlestown, followed by a eight minute and forty six second period of silence. After the moments of silence, residents and staff were invited to write a message of hope for the future of Charlestown and the world on a piece of ribbon. Then, they tied the ribbons to the fence by the community's softball field, where they are available for all members of the community to observe and learn. The ribbons will be on display for the next few weeks.

Charlestown's Diversity & Inclusion Council (DIC), founded more than ten years ago, is dedicated to celebrating diversity and creating a more inclusive community that respects and appreciates individual differences. The DIC endorses a broad definition of diversity, and seeks to provide programs and resources that enhance knowledge, encourage understanding and increase inclusion. The Council is comprised of both staff and resident members.
