Prairie View is Now Open!

Prairie View, the residence building that recently opened at Tallgrass Creek, the Erickson Senior Living community in Overland Park, Kans., is excited to welcome its first residents!

The building boasts 99 stylish apartment homes in a range of one- and two-bedroom floor plans, as well as easy access to all the community's amenities, including a brand-new bocce court.

"There is a lot of excitement around the community and among the people who are moving into Prairie View," says Sales Director Blake Marshall. "Our incoming residents are eager to embrace a vibrant, worry-free lifestyle."

'Ease of living'

Two of these newcomers are longtime Overland Park residents Rick and Mary Shewmake, who were looking for a vibrant retirement community that offered one-level, maintenance-free living.

"I'm most looking forward to the ease of living because we don't have to worry about cutting the grass, weeding, going up and down stairs, and getting somebody to take care of the house when we travel," Rick says.

"And the cooking," adds Mary. "I just don't cook much anymore."

While they have a beautifully appointed kitchen in their new two-bedroom-with-den apartment home, Mary is glad they have six on-campus restaurants—each with a unique menu and ambience—to choose from.

Amenities galore

Fountain View, the clubhouse right next to Prairie View, houses three restaurants: Amelia's, a casual lunch and dinner cafe; The Heartland, a formal dining room serving a wide variety of dinner entrees; and Champions, a casual bar and grille that offers pub fare and healthier options in a lively setting.

Fountain View is also home to a fitness center, cards room, and arts and crafts studio.

The Audubon Clubhouse, an indoor walk (or quick shuttle ride) from Prairie View, offers additional dining venues: a convenience market and three restaurants, including the recently renovated Blue Sky Restaurant.

Other nearby campus amenities include a salon and spa, aquatics center with indoor swimming pool and hot tub, fitness center, billiards and game area, woodshop, library, pickleball court, and putting green.

Perfect location

Rick and Mary both anticipate staying involved in their current activities in the larger Overland Park community, as well as taking advantage of all the new ones available at Tallgrass Creek.

"It's a great location for us," says Rick, who golfs at the Country Club of Leawood and volunteers at two local hospitals. "I'm sure we'll be very interested in all the opportunities."

Rick's cousin Steve Shewmake and his wife Jan also live at Tallgrass.

"My cousin tells us there's always something going on, and that they keep busy with just Tallgrass Creek events and things," Rick says. "I'll probably try out playing golf with some of the people from there."

Mary, who enjoys crafting, can't wait to join the craft club and the arts and crafts studio.

She plans to use the second bedroom of their apartment home as a multipurpose space that doubles as a craft room and a guest bedroom.

Once they get settled, she also plans on exploring the Mary group—a club for residents named Mary—and the retired teachers group, as she taught English as a Second Language and served as director of the secondary program for grades 6–12 in Overland Park's Blue Valley School District.

Creating connections

Having lived and worked in the area for most of their adult lives, Rick and Mary anticipate knowing quite a few people who already live at Tallgrass Creek. For them, that was part of the appeal.

"We know people who live there, and we keep learning about more and more. We're guessing there's probably quite a few," Mary says, with a laugh. "I'm really looking forward to meeting new people and reconnecting with some people who live there who I haven't connected with in a long time."

With more than two-thirds of Prairie View's apartment homes already reserved, Mary and Rick will have even more opportunities to make connections as new neighbors move in.

"We have a mix of both one- and two-bedroom apartment homes remaining in Prairie View," Marshall says. "If you're interested in learning more about available apartment homes, I highly suggest contacting the sales team today! You don't want to miss out on a chance to embrace a worry-free lifestyle."
