Nearly 300 Overland Park, KS, Retirees to Celebrate Their Fitness May 11, at Tallgrass Creek's Outdoor Games
An Outdoor Games celebration of individual fitness by nearly 300 residents of Tallgrass Creek retirement community in Overland Park, Kansas. Residents will play Bocce, golf, ladder ball, washers, Frisbee toss, and bean bag toss. The games will kick-off with a Pep Rally-style vocal performance by the Tallgrass Creek Chorale. The games are being organized by a resident-run Wellness Committee that formed a Walking Club that walks the Tallgrass Creek campus' 65 acres Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
The Outdoor Games - now in their 4th year -- are a metaphor for Tallgrass Creek residents' attentiveness to their health and fitness. The community's Fitness Center has nu-step, elliptical and treadmill cardiovascular equipment along with weight lifting equipment and free weights. Group exercise classes including Core Exercise, Chair Exercise, Stretch & Tone, Yoga and Balance Ball Workout are held.
A saline pool is perfect for the residents' Water Aerobics class. Tallgrass Creek has a Balance Class series. In addition, a Fitness Specialist is available on weekdays for one-on-one appointments with residents and tutorial on the exercise equipment.
