The Hugs Team at Tallgrass Creek Retirement Community Helps Thousands of People in Kansas City Erea Each Year Through Its Community Outreach Projects; 2011 Was a Banner Year of Service by Residents
OVERLAND PARK,KS (January 13, 2012) - The Hugs Team  at Tallgrass Creek Retirement Community in Overland Park helps thousands of men, women and children through its community outreach projects in the Kansas City area and beyond. And 2011 was a banner year of service by Tallgrass Creek resident volunteers.  A recap of some of The Hugs Team's 2011 projects follows.
January: Food Drive, Blue Valley Multi-Service.
February: Soles for Souls---collected gently used shoes for people in disasters such as Joplin, Missouri,  tornado or the hurricane in Louisiana.
March: A total of 212 books and art supply items donated for Head Start of Shawnee Mission.
April: 45 Easter Baskets donated for children at TLC.
May: Gently used summer clothing donated for Central Presbyterian Church Clothes Closet.
June: A total of 230 Snack Packs donated through KAHSA for survivors of the Joplin tornado who lost their homes - used in care centers and hospitals
July:  A total of 523 School Supply Items donated for BVMS.
October: A total of 152 items (hats, gloves, socks, underwear) donated for Johnson County Christmas Bureau, in addition to a $155 cash donation.
November - Gently used winter clothing was donated for Central Presbyterian Church Clothes Closet
The ongoing monthly projects by the Tallgrass Creek Hugs Team included:
 

• Marsha Merrick program to serve the homeless: A total of 1,000 cookies a month donated by Tallgrass Creek bakers.
• Collection of Box Tops for Education for Blue River Elementary School (the Tallgrass Creek Grandfriends school)
• Collecting, clipping and sorting grocery coupons each week from the Sunday Kansas City Star for the BVMS food pantry.

Tallgrass Creek, which has nearly 300 residents,  sits on 65 acres in beautiful Southern Johnson County in Overland Park, Kansas. Tallgrass Creek offers extensive wellness and prevention programs, balance assessment and fall prevention programs, and Fitness and Aquatics Centers.
