A Great Local Lifestyle in Overland Park

Nestled in the heart of the Midwest, Overland Park, Kans., is a thriving community that blends small town charm with big city amenities.
With its abundance of cultural attractions, exceptional dining, and exciting activities for all ages, it's no wonder that residents of Tallgrass Creek, an Erickson Senior Living community in Overland Park, love the many options for getting out and about.
A foodie's paradise
Overland Park is home to an impressive variety of restaurants, offering flavors to satisfy every palate. Whether you crave classic comfort food, international cuisine, or fresh farm-to-table fare, you won't have to look far.
"There are so many wonderful restaurants just a stone's throw away," says Tallgrass Creek resident Ken Bower. "It's one of the many things that make this area such a fantastic place to live."
For residents Jan and Gene Meyer, dining out often has a more personal touch. Their son owns Third Coast Pizza in nearby Lenexa, Kans., which specializes in authentic Detroit-style pizza. Every Sunday night, Jan and Gene place an order from Third Coast Pizza--not just for themselves, but for any neighbors who want to join in.
Jan also contributes to the restaurant by baking cheesecakes from her Tallgrass Creek residence. Each week, she delivers homemade cheesecakes in flavors like strawberry, caramel apple, and Snickers, making the restaurant a true family business.
For those who appreciate global flavors, Kobe Steakhouse of Japan provides an exciting hibachi experience, while Choga Korean Restaurant offers authentic and flavorful dishes like bibimbap and Korean barbecue.
For a casual meal, check out Q39, a beloved Kansas City-style barbecue joint known for its mouthwatering burnt ends and ribs.
Activities for every interest
Overland Park also offers a wide range of activities to keep retirees active and engaged. Golf enthusiasts love the city's beautiful courses, including St. Andrews Golf Club and Sykes/Lady Overland Park Golf Course, both of which boast well-maintained greens and a welcoming atmosphere.
John Jungk, who moved to Tallgrass Creek in fall 2024 with his wife Sandy, enjoys regular outings with his golf group at local courses.
Aside from golf, John walks two to three miles a day--on Tallgrass Creek's beautiful campus and also at nearby scenic walking and biking trails like the Indian Creek Trail, a local favorite. It winds through picturesque parks and natural landscapes. "I like the idea that there are so many activities," he says.
Sandy and John didn't have to move far. They sold their Overland Park villa to move to Tallgrass Creek for the warmer months, and they spend eight to nine months of the year in Florida.
As snowbirds, they appreciate all that Overland Park has to offer as well as the activities that occur right on Tallgrass Creek's campus.
"We talk often about how important it is to be active and have a social life as you age, and Tallgrass Creek offers that in spades," John says.

If you have grandchildren who visit or live nearby, Overland Park has plenty of exciting activities that the whole family can enjoy together.

The Museum at Prairiefire is another great choice, featuring a dinosaur exhibit, hands-on science activities, and a stunning architectural design that makes it a standout attraction.
