Cedar Crest Residents Donate Pet Supplies/Food to Pequannock Animal Shelter

April 17, 2014

POMPTON PLAINS, NJ - Since the beginning of April, Cedar Crest residents have been collecting pet supplies for the Pequannock Animal Shelter, including food, treats, blankets and towels. Earlier today, representatives from the shelter collected the items and brought along some friends for the visit.
Residents donated more than 100 items, including pet food, treats, toys, sheets and blankets for the shelter.
As part of an ongoing effort to increase awareness about the importance of pet adoption, the shelter showed off some furry felines to the residents of Cedar Crest, giving the folks a chance to socialize with some cats in need of a home and two cats found a new home at Cedar Crest when they were adopted today.
"Our residents are so caring and compassionate and this is truly evidenced by the wonderful donation drive to benefit animals in need of a home," said Cedar Crest Executive Director Cathy Guttman.
This event also provided the Cedar Crest population with the chance to consider adopting a cat. According to the Pequannock Animal Shelter the feline population in town has swelled in recent times, which is why adoption is a good solution.
"It is well-known that animals make for good companionship for people, but cats in particular a very good company for older adults," said Jill Heck, co-president of the Animal Dignity Organization of Pequannock Township (A.D.O.P.T.). "Cats can help improve the mood and overall health of older adults and with so many of them needing a wonderful home, adoption is a great solution."
