Alyssa Post found the 2024 Cedar Crest Career Expo invaluable, especially for the young employees she mentors as an Assistant General Manager in Dining Services. They were able to explore possibilities for career advancement and development and learn about career paths available at Cedar Crest, and other Erickson communities.
Alyssa’s career path started at Cedar Crest in 2006, when she was just 16.
“My mom had heard good things, including the scholarship opportunities here for high schoolers,” Alyssa says. “I knew during my interview I’d love working here. I started as a student server in the Oak Room, was promoted to peer trainer about a year later and was awarded ‘Student of the Quarter.’ The scholarship I earned helped me through my college years.”
Alyssa appreciates Erickson’s care and nurturing of its employees and their career goals with its focus on culture and its core promises to team members for financial stability, a vibrant work experience, and a commitment to health and well-being.
“After working at Cedar Crest about eight years, I applied for service coach/supervisor in the Overlook Restaurant,” Alyssa says. “That opportunity turned into a permanent position a few months later. With the full-time position came an opportunity for tuition reimbursement, which I used to finish my business studies at William Paterson University. In 2019, I was promoted to Assistant General Manager of the Overlook.”
For employees like Alyssa, Erickson communities like Cedar Crest offer a friendly, supportive atmosphere, built on a foundation of meaningful relationships between residents and co-workers.
“I think it’s great we offer Career Expos where everyone can see other opportunities outside of their designated departments,” Alyssa says. “I’m looking forward to attending the next Career Expo – to meet new people and learn about opportunities!”
Through training and professional development opportunities, mentorship programs, and benefits such as reimbursement for higher education, trade schools, and certifications, Erickson and its communities nationwide provide 16,000 team members like Alyssa and her team with the tools to advance in roles throughout the enterprise. Career Expos provide a one-stop shop to learn about available resources and connect with leaders and peers who have built “careers for life” with ESL.
“Our goal is to provide our talented and diverse team members with meaningful work experiences that match their interests and goals,” said Nicole Walker, Chief Human Resources Officer for Erickson Senior Living. “This is why we created the 2024 Internal Career Expo Series. As a growth company with a bright future, we strive to be an employer of choice by providing our team members with the resources to cultivate the career they desire.”
At Cedar Crest, Alyssa has had “wonderful co-workers and managers” since she began as a student server. She loves coming to work and interacting with residents every day.
“Each manager I’ve worked with was an intricate part of my growth. Being a manager now, I hope I’m able to help others grow and develop,” she says. “Cedar Crest is a great place to work. When you work with great people that care about you and invest in your growth, it makes coming to work more exciting and fulfilling!”
