Cedar Crest Community Collects Beauty Items For Women With Cancer

August 12, 2014

POMPTON PLAINS, NJ - Cedar Crest is doing its part to help women with cancer feel as beautiful as they can be so the community teamed up with the organization Fighting Pretty, which is a national non-profit that helps women battling the disease feel strong, pretty and confident - inside and out.

For approximately one month, Cedar Crest residents and staff donated various makeup items, including lipstick, mascara and eye shadow by dropping them off in bins throughout the community's clubhouses. More than 100 items were collected for Fighting Pretty, and the products will help women of all ages, battling any type of cancer feel better about themselves.
Fighting Pretty creates "Pretty Packages" for women who are undergoing cancer treatment as well as for those who have completed it, and need a nice gift of beauty. In addition to including beauty supplies, these packages also contain scarves, inspirational items, a journal and more. Another important items is the mini pink boxing gloves which are a sign of determination for women fighting the disease.
"I'm proud of the community for providing these gifts that will help make women who are in perhaps the toughest battle of their lives feel better about themselves," said Cedar Crest Executive Director Lou Varella. "Compassion, giving and action are three important hallmarks of those who live and work here at Cedar Crest and this is yet another example of how our folks are committed to making a difference."
Fighting Pretty Founder and CEO Kara Skaflestad said, "It has been such an honor working with the Cedar Crest team. Their excitement and commitment to the cause furthers our mission of helping women feel strong and beautiful through their battle with cancer."
