Cedar Crest Announces Appointment of Louis W. Varella as Executive Director

POMPTON PLAINS, NJ - Cedar Crest, the Erickson Living retirement community in Morris County, announced the appointment of Louis W. Varella as its executive director earlier today.

In this leadership position, Mr. Varella will work with administration to help ensure that the more the approximately 2,000 residents continue to receive unparalleled quality service and amenities. He will also focus on training and development for the community's 1,040 employees.
Mr. Varella has more than 25 years of operations and finance experience in the senior living industry. Most recently, he served as the associate executive director of Riderwood, another Erickson Living community located in Maryland. Prior to that, he has also worked as executive director of the Quincy Village retirement community in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, where he also served as area director for three other communities nearby.
In addition, Mr. Varella has also held regional positions with Marriott International Senior Living Services.
"I am looking to set a strong example for staff through training, development, and leadership focus here at the community," Mr. Varella said. "With nearly a quarter-century of experience working in the retirement industry, I've learned that the relationships forged between staff and those who live here are critical, and that the residents and guests remain the reason we come to work each day.  I look forward to working with the entire Cedar Crest team to build on the success they have already demonstrated in service towards all the residents."

Born in New York City, Mr. Varella holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Management & Industrial Relations from the University of Rhode Island and an Executive MBA from Averette College in Danville, Virginia.
