Windsor Run, an Erickson Senior Living community in Matthews, N.C., has welcomed its first residents to Fincher Station, the seventh residence building on campus.
Among those first residents were Wayne and Mary Clark, who are already embracing the vibrant lifestyle.
"The best part of moving to Fincher Station is the ability to eliminate the day-to-day stress of maintaining our house--and the opportunity to be involved in new activities while meeting new friends," Mary says.
She continues, "Wayne and I are both very social people, but with recent health issues, we found ourselves getting into a rut. We knew we needed to get out and do more things away from our house. At Windsor Run, we are excited to meet new neighbors, get involved in activities, and be a part of everything going on around us!"
Honoring history
The Clarks join more than 100 residents moving into the new building, which is named after the Fincher family farm, formerly located where the community now sits.
Like other residence buildings--including Fullwood Station, named after John Miles Fullwood, who operated the local stagecoach depot and post office; and Crestdale Court, named after one of North Carolina's oldest African American communities--Fincher Station pays homage to the rich history of Matthews.
"We take pride in recognizing the history of the local community," says Executive Director Michael Wehrle. "Carolina Hall, the beautiful performing arts center coming to Fincher Station, is the namesake of our great state. It will host 250 guests."
Worry-free living
Each of Fincher Station's 91 apartment homes will boast popular features, including modern kitchens with quartz countertops and stainless steel appliances; full-size, side-by-side washers and dryers; walk-in closets; and luxury flooring and light fixtures.
Wayne and Mary are thrilled that their move to their two-bedroom, two-bath Walton apartment home means leaving behind the stresses associated with upkeep and maintenance.
"We built our house 46 years ago," says Wayne. "Maintaining the house and yard was becoming too much. We wanted to remove the stress that comes with continuing to own a home."
Mary is also glad that she no longer has to worry about cooking dinner, as Fincher Station is bringing on two new restaurants--the Cardinal, an upscale venue offering local seafood and prime steaks, and the Midtown Pub, a more casual setting serving fresh salads, burgers, and specially crafted cocktails.
"I love the fact that I no longer have to plan menus!" says Mary.
Priority List perks
Upon visiting Windsor Run, the Clarks immediately knew they had found what they were looking for.
"When we began our search for a Charlotte-area [retirement] community," explains Wayne, "we were searching for a home where, no matter what happens in the future, we would be well cared for and everything would be taken care of for us."
"We were so impressed with Windsor Run from the moment we first walked into the Sales Center," says Mary. "Everyone was so friendly. Wayne and I knew we had found a safe, stress-free environment where we would enjoy a wide variety of amenities. We decided to join the Priority List, excited to meet new people and enjoy time together."
Early access to floor plans
This Priority List status allowed them to select their apartment home in Fincher Station before members of the public and work with Planning and Moving Consultant Andrea Fitzgibbons to ensure a seamless move.
"We were kept well-informed throughout our entire decision-making process as well as our move," says Mary. "We received help with everything from how to pack to which vendors to use. There was never any pressure. We chose one of the recommended [real estate agents] and were extremely happy with how well everything was taken care of. It's difficult to pack up a house you've lived in for 46 years."
'Time to enjoy'
The couple also formed friendships with fellow Priority List members--two of whom are now their next-door neighbors.
"We moved to a brand-new home at the same time as our neighbors. That's special," says Mary. "Together, we have a lot to look forward to!"
Since settling into their apartment home, Mary has surrounded herself with even more new friends, and Wayne has been exploring hobbies to try. "I think I may try watercolor painting," says Wayne. "It's something I haven't done in years but have the opportunity and time to enjoy now."
