"Linden Ponds is the easiest place in the world to meet people and make new friends," says Tom Farina, who moved to the Erickson Senior Living community in Hingham, Mass., in 2017 with his wife Nancy Hill.

He adds, "I can't say enough about the wonderful atmosphere here! There is so much to do that you'll only ever be bored if you choose to be. Each day, we wake up happy, eager to enjoy what's next."

The couple's excitement extends into the New Year, thanks to the community's maintenance-free apartment homes that support residents' active lifestyles and promote meaningful social connections.

Investing in the future

Susan Sheehan, Linden Ponds' sales director, notes that 2024 will be filled with a variety of programs, activities, and events--even more so than years past.

"In 2023, we welcomed many new residents, invested in state-of-the-art fitness equipment, and saw the number of people using the indoor pickleball court continue to boom--all of which create plenty of opportunities for socialization this year," she says. "And in 2024, we will continue our enhancements, ensuring that residents enjoy a modern, comfortable environment."

"We appreciate the ongoing renovation efforts," says Tom. "Everything is brighter with light colors and modern paintings on the walls. It's beautiful, like a brand-new home."

Newfound hobbies

For Tom and Nancy, the decision to move to Linden Ponds was as quick and easy as walking through the front door.

"Prior to our move, we were living in a second-floor condo in South Boston," says Tom. "We knew that, as we aged, we wanted to live in a community with friendly people and lots to do. So, we scheduled a visit to Linden Ponds. As soon as we walked in the door, it felt good. We just knew this was the place for us."

And their instinct was spot on. Within days of moving in, the couple began making friends.

"When we were walking to dinner on one of our first days here," says Tom, "a woman approached us and said, 'You look new, let's have dinner!' Everyone is so welcoming. And when you find someone who has something in common, that just adds to how wonderful it is."

As the couple continued to meet new people, they also began looking for opportunities to explore their interests. Tom was immediately drawn to Linden Ponds' state-of-the art TV studio.

"When I saw the TV studio, I knew I needed to be a part of it," he says. "I began by working behind the camera, but soon enough I was in front of the camera hosting a show--now called the Thomas and Tommy Live Sports show. And because we live in the Boston area, there is never a dull moment when it comes to sports!"

Inspired by his newfound hobby, Tom went on to develop a new show for Linden Ponds TV. He's also a member of the Linden Ponds Repertory Theater, recently performing in Fractured Fairytales as Harold. Together, he and Nancy belong to the photography club.

Nancy participates in the Nancy Club, a group of almost 20 women named Nancy who meet once a month for dinner in the community's private dining room. She is also a member of the Lithuanian heritage club, plays cards, and swims in the all-season pool.

Last year, she also launched a new group called the Linden Ponds Comedy Club, featuring resident performers.

Bigger and better

This year, they look forward to growing their clubs and finding new ways to involve themselves in community life.

"We will continue to grow with our friends and neighbors," says Tom, who is already creating a packing list for their spring trip to Italy with two other Linden Ponds couples.

"I've always wanted to go to Italy," he adds. "We talked about it with our friends, who then looked into it and signed up too. We're traveling together to Florence, Rome, Venice, Milan, Pisa, and Pompeii."

With their 2024 calendar filling up quickly, Tom and Nancy are grateful for the worry-free lifestyle that allows them to stay active and travel as they please.

"Linden Ponds definitely lives up to our expectations," says Tom. "And being a part of the larger Erickson Senior Living network provides peace of mind. We are well taken care of here."
