Demolition and ground work is underway at the future home of The Grandview in Bethesda, Maryland.

Amid much anticipation, The Grandview, a high-rise Erickson Senior Living community planned for Bethesda, Md., is starting to take shape.

"Potomac Heights, the community's first building, is underway, which is an important milestone," says George Mishraky, sales director for The Grandview. "The building pad was completed after the necessary excavation, grading, and deep foundational work was done."

Meanwhile, work continues on the adjacent area--the site of the former Marriott headquarters.

Making progress

"The landscape has completely changed to a full-on construction zone," jokes Mishraky. "What's called 'soft stripping' is now complete--removing carpet, furniture, and some of the drywall, as well as clearing glass from several floors of the building--to prepare for structural demolition, which is well underway."

The first residents of Potomac Heights should be able to move in during fall 2025, he notes. The Grandview's second building, Woodmont Terrace, will open about a year later.

Even with so much work going on, members of The Grandview's priority list find it easy to stay informed of the latest news and updates.

They receive a monthly email newsletter featuring a video series called "Construction Corner with George," which includes highlights of the construction process. Members also appreciate seeing regular construction site photos and occasional time-lapse videos of the community's progress.

The monthly newsletter also contains the latest news on the community and a list of exclusive priority list events, as well as recipes, pet pictures, and travel photos, all submitted by priority list members.

Priority list perks

One of the most beneficial features of priority list membership is access to all 15 different floor plans that will be available at Potomac Heights. Members also find out which apartment home layouts will be offered on each floor of the building so that they can begin deciding which space and location they prefer.

"More than 500 people have already joined the priority list," Mishraky says. "Interest has even come from some people who noticed the construction as they walked or drove by!"

To further inform priority list members about the community, Mishraky hosted an event this summer at The Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center.

Kevin Bunn, vice president of dining services for Erickson Senior Living, was invited to speak at the event. He discussed the three dining venues coming to The Grandview; the Choice Dining meal plan; and the concept of Signature Dining, which encompasses the fresh, made-to-order dishes that are created by professional chefs across the enterprise.

Other informative priority list events have included discussions about future health care options, finishes and fixtures that will be available in apartment homes, designs for the indoor and outdoor amenity spaces, and details on the monthly service package.

Community matters

Most importantly, priority list members have already started making connections.

"Creating community before the community even opens sets the tone for the future of The Grandview," says Mishraky. "Several groups and clubs have already been formed, with members getting together to explore common interests including pickleball, reading, art, needlework, volunteering, and fitness."
