Erickson Realty and Moving Services will help new residents of The Grandview in Bethesda make a seamless transition to the community upon its scheduled opening in the fall of 2025.

Linda and John Olguin were excited for their planned move to The Grandview, an Erickson Senior Living community being built in Bethesda, Md., but they weren't looking forward to the downsizing and packing that would be required. After living in their house for more than four decades, the couple had a lot of furniture and mementos to sift through.

"We've always been the focal point for family celebrations, so we have everything known to man for entertaining," says Linda, with a laugh. "We needed to start downsizing."

So, after joining the community's Priority List, Linda and John contacted Hannah Davis, sales associate and planning and moving consultant at The Grandview.

"Sharing the resources that Erickson Realty and Moving Services offers and letting future residents know that I will be with them each step along the way makes a big difference," says Davis. "It helps them feel more relaxed and confident!"

A helping hand

After the Olguins reached out, Davis scheduled a home visit to help them choose a floor plan and determine where their belongings will go in their apartment home. "We walked through our house, room by room, and pointed out what we would like to take with us," recalls Linda.

She was impressed by how thorough the process was. "[The Erickson Realty and Moving Services team] measured every single piece of furniture; they even measured our closet space and told us exactly how much space we had for clothing," she says.

Then, miniature replicas of their furniture were placed on magnetic boards that matched their top two floor plans.

"For instance, if we wanted to keep a chair, we could see if it would fit by moving the pieces around," says John, adding that they received a representation of their apartment home with all their belongings in place.

Linda is thrilled that her beloved bedroom set, as well as a large portion of her book collection, will make the move with them. "I was surprised that all of the furniture we wanted to keep will fit in our new apartment home; it's larger than I expected," she says.

Following the furniture layout process, Davis recommended one of Erickson Realty and Moving Services' preferred moving companies. Now, the Olguins are all set for move-in day!

Solid reputation

Linda's aunt lived at Charlestown, the Erickson Senior Living community in Catonsville, Md., for ten years, which is where she witnessed the excellent lifestyle that residents enjoy.

"When John and I started looking around at senior living places, we were really impressed with Erickson, the experience it has, and the communities throughout the nation that it operates," says Linda. "They really know what they're doing and have senior living down to a science. When we read about the location where The Grandview was going to be, we thought, 'It really doesn't get any better than that for us.'"

She continues, "Once we knew we didn't want to age in place in our house, we decided we didn't want a condominium. We also didn't want a 55-plus community where, even though the maintenance was taken care of, you're still getting in your car to go out to buy all the groceries, you're still cooking all of your own meals, and if you want to socialize, you're still getting in your car and going to the clubhouse."

At Erickson Senior Living communities, all amenities and services are under one roof--thanks to climate-controlled walkways that allow residents to grab dinner with friends and get to club meetings, rain or shine.

Linda, who loves swimming and water aerobics, is eager to visit The Grandview's aquatic center.

She also hopes to join a book club, while John is drawn to the computer/IT club and bocce. "I've played sports my whole life. I'm looking forward to trying bocce for the first time," he says.

But most of all, the couple is excited to have peace of mind--now and for the future. "Since The Grandview is a continuing care retirement community, we never have to move again," John adds, pointing to the community's future levels of care.
