The Ashburn retirement community further expands its footprint in Loudoun County in response to demands for innovative senior housing in northern Virginia

(Ashburn, Va.) --- Ashby Ponds, an Erickson Living retirement community in Loudoun County, Va.,  announced today that construction has begun on Hickory Glen, a new independent living residential building, and Great Oak Clubhouse, a community building with added campus amenities.
Hickory Glen is a $14.3 million project that will include 68 independent living apartment homes with 14 different floor plans.  The 124,000 square-foot building will include residences varying in size among one-bedroom and two-bedroom layouts.  Apartment homes will feature amenities such as stainless steel kitchen appliances, granite countertops, and upgraded lighting and flooring options.  Additionally, nearly half of the apartment homes will offer an outdoor living space with a screened-in porch or a patio.  Covered, underground parking will also be available for residents of Hickory Glen.
"The rising demand for additional residences at Ashby Ponds is undeniable," said Holly Henderson, Director of Sales at Ashby Ponds.  "Two-thirds of the apartment homes in Hickory Glen have already been reserved.  We continue to find that our campus location, our financial strength and structure, and our service offerings combine to provide prospective residents with a perfect match for the retirement lifestyle they desire."
Great Oak Clubhouse will be the second community building at Ashby Ponds.  The $7.9 million project will feature a 20,000 square-foot clubhouse inclusive of a performing arts theater, a café, a banquet room, a reading room, an art studio and gallery, additional classrooms, and a new control room for the community's in-house television station.
"The new clubhouse will be a wonderful and welcomed addition to the community," noted Henderson.  "Residents will now be able to enjoy a fifth dining venue, a large-scale performance space, and a dedicated area for the many artisans at the community."
Both Hickory Glen and Great Oak Clubhouse are scheduled to open by early 2015.  The Baltimore-based firm, Marks, Thomas Architects, is the project architect and Whiting-Turner is the general contractor for both projects.
The most recent project to be completed at Ashby Ponds was the community's Continuing Care neighborhood in March 2014.  The neighborhood includes 132-residences and features state-of-the-art spaces for residents receiving higher levels of care.  Willow Crossing, an independent living residential building featuring 101 apartment homes and several community amenities, is scheduled to open this summer at Ashby Ponds, adding about 175 new residents to the community.
