Ashby Ponds to Celebrate 5th Anniversary

The Ashburn, Va. retirement community has organized a week of celebrations marking the milestone
(Ashburn, Va.) - Ashby Ponds retirement community will mark its 5th anniversary with various commemorative events from September 9 through September 16. The community officially opened its doors on September 16, 2008, followed by a grand opening on October 2. Today, the community has nearly 300 employees and over 725 residents.
"Five years ago when we opened the doors, we were excited to bring the Erickson Living lifestyle to Loudoun County," said David Gallagher, Executive Director at Ashby Ponds Executive Director. "By providing a community rich with amenities, on-site health care, and maintenance-free living for residents, we knew that Ashby Ponds would become the standard of excellence in retirement living."
By the end of 2008, about 300 residents had moved into the first three residence buildings on campus. Since then, three additional residence buildings have been completed, finalizing the first neighborhood at the community. The most recently completed building, Red Robin View, opened in April 2012 and brought more than 100 new neighbors to the community.
"Over the past five years, Ashby Ponds residents have organized over 100 groups and clubs, dazzled us by showcasing their talents in concerts, plays and art galleries, and graciously volunteered their time and energy in our local community," said Gallagher. "Our employees also continue their commitment each and every day to providing friendly, professional customer service in order to help our residents live better lives."
Both residents and staff are looking forward to the next major milestone at Ashby Ponds; in early 2014, the community's Continuing Care neighborhood will open. The four-story, 128,000 square-foot neighborhood will offer assisted living, memory care, post-acute rehabilitation, and nursing care services. Residents of the continuing care neighborhood will enjoy the highest quality of care, plus benefits like private apartment suites with full private baths and showers, walk-in closets, granite countertops, and access to the amenities and services offered at Ashby Ponds.

| Monday, September 9 9-10am | Founders Breakfast: The Founders Breakfast is designed for original, "founding" staff members and residents at the community. A 5th anniversary video will also be premiered at this event. |
| Tuesday, September 10 11-11:30am | 5th Anniversary Terrace Dedication Ceremony: This event will be held to dedicate a new terrace constructed at the community in honor of the 5th anniversary. Broad Run Supervisor Shawn Williams and Ashby Ponds' Executive Director David Gallagher will be giving remarks. |
| Wednesday, September 11 2-3pm | Memory Tree and Tapestry Open House: Residents and staff members will work on creating both a memory tree and tapestry for the 5th anniversary. |
| Thursday, September 12 7:30pm | Premiere of Drama Club Productions: The Ashby Ponds Drama Club will debut "Ms. Ashby Ponds" and "Change of Mind". |
| Friday, September 13 1-3pm | Pavilion Concert and Ice Cream Extravaganza: This outdoor event will include an old-fashioned Good Humor truck, snow cone and popcorn machines, and live music. |
| Monday, September 16 10am-2pm | Main Street Event: A "Main Street" will be created in the clubhouse at Ashby Ponds with various shops where residents can reminisce and experience things "as they once were". Shops will include a candy shop, a bakery, a soda shop, a deli, and a wine and cheese shop. During this time, the 5th anniversary video will also be shown. |
