Ashby Ponds, the Erickson Senior Living community in Ashburn, Va., announced the construction of Leesburg Landing, the community's final residence building, in June!

"This is an exciting time," says Executive Director Tom Channon. "When we welcomed our first residents in 2008, our goal was to meet the tremendous demand for the Erickson Senior Living lifestyle in Loudoun County."

Ashby Ponds has done just that. Over the last 16 years, the community has constructed three clubhouses, a continuing care neighborhood, and 16 residence buildings, welcoming more than 2,100 retirees.

"With the opening of Leesburg Landing scheduled soon," says Channon, "we're ushering in a new phase--one of an established, thriving community."

Because no other apartment homes are slated for this sought-after community, now is the time to secure the engaging retirement lifestyle you've always dreamed of!

Popular, modern features

The construction of Leesburg Landing follows soon after Harpers Mill, a new residence building that opened earlier this year with 110 apartment homes.

Leesburg Landing will feature 75 new apartment homes, all of which will boast modern kitchens with quartz countertops and stainless-steel appliances, walk-in closets, and luxury vinyl plank flooring.

Many units will also include patios, bay windows, and screened porches.

"We listened carefully to what our current residents and Priority List members enjoy most about our existing apartment homes," says Sales Director Elizabeth Dunwoody. "As a result, Leesburg Landing will feature floor plans that best meet the needs of our community."

A warm welcome

With hundreds of retirees moving to Ashby Ponds this year and well into 2025, current residents are happily extending a hand in friendship to their new neighbors.

"We created a variety of programs that help our newest residents feel welcome and appreciated as soon as they move in," notes Resident Life Director Faith Edwards. "These programs are the result of several focus groups we conducted, in which we asked incoming residents what type of help they would like. After we gathered and assessed the responses, resident volunteers brought the requested support to life. They're the reason why the programs are so successful."

The most popular programs for new residents include partnering with a current resident, meet-and-greet dinners, and floor socials.

Ginger Hood, chair of the resident life committee, enjoys welcoming and spending time with Ashby Ponds' newest residents.

"I know how important it is to feel welcome when moving to a new home," she says. "It's also a wonderful opportunity to meet a new friend. Each new resident brings new ideas, new ways of thinking. They are often eager to get involved. I've met so many people with interesting backgrounds."

Shared experiences

In addition to receiving a warm welcome, retirees moving into a new residence building have the unique opportunity to connect and share experiences with their hall and building mates.

Stan and Penny Russell were among the first people to move to Hamilton Way when it opened in November 2021. Volunteering as "building captains," the couple welcomed each new neighbor with a smile.

Looking forward to celebrating three years at Ashby Ponds, the Russells continue to serve as building captains, planning social events and providing support for their neighbors.

"Two residents on each floor in Hamilton Way are responsible for welcoming new neighbors and ensuring the health and welfare of the people on their floor," says Stan. "If there's a need, we reach out to help as well. We really take care of each other."

The couple finds that connections made during the early move-in days only continue to strengthen over time.

"Now, our focus goes beyond just welcoming people. We're striving to build community," explains Stan. "For example, earlier this year, we hosted a Spring Fling. Over 100 residents gathered to celebrate together!"

Don't wait!

This summer, Ashby Ponds' Priority List members received first notice of construction starting on Leesburg Landing. With many members eager to join the vibrant, active community, the response has been overwhelmingly positive.

"We anticipate Leesburg Landing to completely sell out before the end of this year," says Dunwoody. "Word of mouth is a powerful force. Our residents love living here, and they continue to spread the word among family and friends. Since announcing the building to the Priority List, almost half of the new apartment homes are already reserved!"
