On November 6, 2023, Charlie and Jackie Allen relished the honor of becoming the first retirees to move to Fullwood Ridge, the new residence building at Windsor Run, an Erickson Senior Living community in Matthews, N.C.
Working with Planning and Moving Consultant Andrea Fitzgibbons, the couple enjoyed a seamless move to their new apartment home.
"Without hesitation, we highly recommend working with Andrea when preparing for a move to Windsor Run," says Charlie.
Providing assistance from start to finish, Fitzgibbons helped the Allens choose a floor plan, plan the layout of their furniture, select a real estate agent, sell their house, pack, move, and oversee their apartment home customizations.
"Andrea is wonderful to work with," says Jackie. "Her helpful suggestions and resources made our move as stress-free as possible."
Thoughtful decision-making
For the Allens, the road to Windsor Run began with visits to a number of retirement communities in the Charlotte area. "We were drawn to Windsor Run for both the wide range of amenities and the price," says Charlie.
With their sights set on Windsor Run, the couple joined the community's Priority List to take advantage of the Live the Life program--an opportunity to experience the active, engaging lifestyle firsthand.
"We stayed on campus in a furnished apartment home for three days," says Charlie.
"Our stay solidified our decision," says Jackie. "We learned the lay of the land, touring the clubhouse, pool, fitness center, and medical center. We also saw all the activities and clubs that residents enjoy."
Powerful partnership
With their move to Windsor Run confirmed, Fitzgibbons met with the Allens in their Davidson, N.C., house. She helped the couple visualize furniture layouts by bringing scale models of floor plans they liked.
"Seeing apartment homes with all our furniture in place helped us decide between two floor plans," notes Charlie.
Fitzgibbons also provided a list of preferred real estate agents and other move professionals the couple could work with.
"The real estate agent we chose was fantastic. Within hours of our 'coming soon' announcement, we had two offers and five scheduled visits," says Charlie. "As a result, we never officially put the house on the market. Instead, we accepted an offer above asking price without contingencies."
Once the sale was finalized, the Allens turned their focus to packing.
"The furniture layout we put together with Andrea was very helpful," says Jackie. "We knew what would fit in our apartment home and could plan accordingly. It really made packing much easier."
Personalize your space
Charlie adds, "Andrea was always available to answer questions, too. For instance, when we had questions about the kitchen and the size of the cabinets, she sent us the cabinet design with dimensions as well as additional information about the configuration of the kitchen."
"We were bringing a large bookcase with us and wanted to paint it to match our kitchen cabinets," says Jackie. "Andrea provided a sample of the color, which we used to make the perfect match."
And when the couple decided to make some customizations to their new home, Fitzgibbons coordinated all of the work, ensuring everything was completed prior to their arrival.
"We took our keys on October 31 and moved in just one week later," recalls Charlie. "In that time, utility cabinets were mounted and the layout of our primary closet was reconfigured. Andrea worked with her preferred vendors to repaint the entire home a new color, orchestrated the placement of our window coverings, and oversaw the relocation of several light switches. We were impressed with the fact that all that work was completed, professionally, in a tight time frame."
New adventures await
Charlie and Jackie quickly settled in to meet and greet their new neighbors.
"As the first residents, we became the unofficial welcoming committee to our new neighbors," says Jackie, with a laugh. "We've met some super people! Everyone here is very friendly."
The freedom from home maintenance and upkeep has been a big plus, notes Charlie, giving them more time to try all the activities and amenities on campus.
"I've joined the quilting and knitting groups," Jackie says. "And, together, Charlie and I enjoy playing cards and walking. We are still discovering all our options, taking suggestions from others, and looking forward to more fun."
Delicious dining
"We've found it easy to make new friends, and the meals in the restaurants are delicious!" says Charlie. "We are very pleased with our new life, which provides peace of mind to both us and our five children."
