Windsor Run Provides Unmatched Resources for Professional Growth

At Windsor Run, an Erickson Senior Living community in Matthews, NC, team members enjoy more than just a job. They also enjoy opportunities and support for achieving individual career goals including further education, professional development, growth opportunities, and a healthy work-life balance.
This year, each Erickson Senior Living community hosted a Career Expo for current team members providing a unique opportunity to meet department ambassadors, learn about current and upcoming career opportunities, map out a personal development path, and access skill-building opportunities to fuel professional growth.
“Our goal is to provide our talented and diverse team members with a meaningful work experience that matches their interests and goals,” said Nicole Walker, Chief Human Resources Officer for Erickson Senior Living. “This is why we created the 2024 Internal Career Expo Series across the enterprise. As a growth company with a bright future, we strive to be an employer of choice by providing our team members with the resources to cultivate the career they personally desire at Erickson Senior Living.”
A Career Journey
At this year’s Career Expo, Christy Finn, Windsor Run’s Resident Services Coordinator, shared insight on her almost ten-year career with Erickson Senior Living. Following her graduation from college in 2015, Christy began working at Oak Crest, an Erickson Senior Living community in Parkville, Md., as a cook with the dining services team.
“I knew that Erickson Senior Living offered numerous growth opportunities and felt this was a great way to get my foot in the door,” she says.
As she learned more about the community, Christy was drawn to resident services.
“I shared my interest with the Resident Life director, asking for suggestions on steps to take to help achieve that goal,” she says. “We would meet for an hour, once a month. That’s how I learned about the activities assistant position. I was told that it would be a great steppingstone to working in resident life. She gave her recommendation, and I got the job. I’m so thankful for that support.”
For the next two years, Christy enjoyed working as an activities assistant and continued to share her career aspirations with her management team.
“My manager really helped me to grow, sharing suggestions how to set myself apart and look for growth opportunities,” she says. “As a result, I was promoted from a floating assistant, where I helped as needed, to becoming responsible for creating activity calendars for my own neighborhood.”
After almost four years with the activities program, Christy saw that a coordinator position became available in the Resident Life Department. She had been working hard towards a career in Resident Life and felt she now had the growth and experience to take the leap—and she got the job.
Engagement Opportunities
Christy also took advantage of the community’s mentorship program, providing invaluable professional training.
“I was mentored by the security manager, which was a really cool opportunity,” she says. “I learned a lot about leadership and feel that the experience was a big part of why I was hired for the Resident Services position. At the time, I didn’t have any management experience. I learned how to talk like a leader and be confident in my position.”
During that time, Christy’s hard work and dedication was recognized with the awarding of both an employee of the month distinction and employee of the year.
When Christy married and moved to North Carolina with her new husband, she applied for a resident services position at Windsor Run. Although this position was the same title, it presented Christy with even more opportunities to build her leadership skills by allowing her to share her knowledge and experience from Oak Crest. This was especially important to help shape the Resident Life Department at this newly established community. She also serves as Chair of Windsor Run’s Employee Engagement Committee and represented Resident Life at this year’s Career Expo.
“I really love sharing my journey with other staff members,” she says. “When I first began working for Erickson Senior Living, I didn’t know where I wanted to go, but I knew I had a passion for working with seniors. The biggest piece of advice I shared is that you don’t have to stay with what you know. As long as you’re passionate about something, you can run with it. There are so many opportunities. You can really grow with Erickson Senior Living.”
