John David is the new associate executive director of Windsor Run, an Erickson Senior Living community in Matthews, North Carolina.

Windsor Run, the Erickson Senior Living community in Matthews, N.C., is pleased to welcome John David as the new associate executive director!

"We are thrilled that John is joining the team at Windsor Run," says Executive Director Michael Wehrle. "His operational expertise and commitment to our mission will help our community continue to flourish as a great place to live and work."

The perfect match

John, who earned a bachelor's degree in business administration and a master of business administration (MBA) from the University of Arizona Global Campus, brings more than 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry to his new position at Windsor Run.

Most recently, John served as a regional director of operations for Extended Stay America, where he was responsible for overseeing 52 hotels in the Carolinas and Georgia.

When he left Extended Stay America and began exploring new opportunities near his home in Monroe, N.C., he found a special connection at Windsor Run.

"What struck me is that Erickson Senior Living offers a career for life," he says. "I've never been a job hopper. When a company commits to me, I commit to them. Throughout the interview process, I met a lot of great people and was impressed with the commitment to resident and employee engagement."

Forming relationships

Since his arrival at Windsor Run last year, John has focused his attention on getting to know the residents he serves.

"Our residents are one of the main reasons I enjoy this position so much," he says. "When I first visited the community, I noticed that team members greet residents by name. Although I don't know every name yet, I'm having a great time getting to know everyone, learning about their gardens or their golf games, really making authentic connections."

John notes that these kind of personal interactions and connections were missing in his former position.

"Working in the hotel industry, the guests--those you serve--come and go," he says. "But here at Windsor Run, I am interacting with people in their residence. I feel like I'm making a difference in their lives. It's a gift to come to the same place every day and see the same people."

Full steam ahead

Looking ahead, John is dedicated to building upon these relationships to continue to meet the needs of all residents.

"Whether we gain input through conversations, a discussion at a Town Hall meeting, or in the resident satisfaction survey, our goal is to meet the needs of each resident by responding to their feedback," he says. "Recently, we've made improvements to our dining menus and added new programs focused on health and wellness. All of this came from discussions with our residents."

John especially enjoys greeting new residents and helping them settle in.

"It's heartwarming to see new residents welcomed to the community with open arms, just as I have been," he says. "We are all connecting, growing, and learning at the same time."

He continues, "Living at Windsor Run is the best of all worlds. Not only do residents enjoy an unmatched carefree lifestyle, but they also reap the benefits of our geographic location. We have mild weather and access to both beaches and mountains. And we are close to Charlotte and all that the city provides, from college and professional sports teams to theater, music, and art."

Living his best life

When not at Windsor Run, John loves spending time with his wife Allie and their three sons, Christian, Brooks, and Bryce.

"The boys are 15, 2, and 1. They keep us very busy!" he says.

As a native of North Carolina, you'll also find John cheering on the University of North Carolina Tarheels and the Carolina Panthers. He hits the links at nearby golf clubs, as well.
Each night, John returns home to his family, happy and fulfilled in his new position.

‘The secret sauce'

"Together, we have built a great community," he says. "Everyone at Windsor Run, from residents to staff, make sure you feel welcome. We are like a family, filled with people to support you. The vibrant culture, I believe, is the ‘secret sauce.' It's what makes Windsor Run such a great place to live and work."
