A Fresh Focus on Well-Being at Windsor Run

Residents at Windsor Run enjoy an array of amenities and programs that benefit their health and well-being.

Residents at Windsor Run, an Erickson Senior Living community in Matthews, N.C., have convenient access to industry-leading amenities that are designed to enhance their physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.

With a Wellness Studio, fitness center, putting green, pickleball and bocce courts, medical center, and healthy dining options at a variety of restaurants all on site, there's no shortage of ways for these retirees to meet their wellness goals.

"I'm doing more for my fitness now than I was ever able to do when I lived in my house," says Elizabeth Stone, who moved to the community in October 2021.

Always eager to get up and moving, Elizabeth visits the fitness center regularly, participates in water aerobics twice a week, and takes a group strength and stability class three times a week.

"Life at Windsor Run is wonderful," she explains. "There are so many great opportunities here that I couldn't do everything, even if I tried!"

Investing in well-being

In addition to her daily 1.5-mile circuit of the scenic, 60-acre community, Elizabeth joined a walking group to meet neighbors for an additional stroll every Tuesday morning.

Thanks to a $500 million investment by Erickson Senior Living, the group now walks along a new, beautifully landscaped walking trail that winds throughout campus.

"Erickson Senior Living's mission is to help seniors live better lives," says Michael Wehrle, executive director of Windsor Run. "As a result, they are dedicated to enhancing the amenities and services that improve residents' well-being."

The new walking trail was followed by a bocce court, enlarged dog park, and upgraded fitness machines.

A holistic approach

"Physical fitness, social opportunities, and access to premium health care are key components of life at Windsor Run," adds Wehrle. "Our fitness center provides unmatched ways to stay active, while our Resident Life staff supports overall well-being and our medical center helps residents maintain and monitor their physical health."

Elizabeth has nothing but amazing things to say about the exercise classes available at the state-of-the-art fitness center.

"The classes are wonderful, and I've been able to meet people that I really like," she says. "When I first moved in, these classes helped introduce me to my neighbors. I've quickly become friends with so many because we share the same interests. It's one of my favorite things about Windsor Run."

Elizabeth also appreciates the convenience and quality of the medical center, staffed by two board-certified physicians, a social worker, and a podiatrist--all specializing in senior health.

Despite having a doctor she liked in Charlotte, N.C., she was especially impressed by Windsor Run's medical director, Dr. Geralyn Campi.

"I thought she was excellent, so I immediately transferred to her. That's been one of my best decisions since moving," notes Elizabeth. "I'm very pleased with the medical center and the time Dr. Campi spends with her patients. It's much, much more time than my doctor in Charlotte. I'm very happy with that."

Social opportunities

When she's not busy at the fitness center or with the walking group, you'll find Elizabeth socializing with friends at on-site restaurants.

"Dining together is a wonderful way to meet people," she says. "Not only do I enjoy chatting with neighbors, but I love meeting the high school students who work as our servers."

She also volunteers as co-chair for the Welcome Committee and as her neighbors' Floor Communicator.

In her role, Elizabeth ensures new movers receive a warm introduction to the community and serves as a point of contact, should they need anything or have questions.

"I love making people feel welcome," she says. "I've been very busy recently, greeting residents of our newest residence building, Fullwood Ridge. I visited two new neighbors and we are quickly becoming friends."

Happy and healthy

Looking forward to a full year of fitness and fun at Windsor Run, Elizabeth knows she's right where she needs to be to enjoy a rewarding, healthy retirement.

And her two children--a daughter in Charlotte, N.C., and a son in Cary, N.C.--couldn't agree more.

"Both my children thank me for moving before I needed to--and before they needed to make a decision for me," she says. "Now, rather than worry about me, they know that I'm living a lifestyle that is helping to keep me healthy and socially connected."
