In the three years since Windsor Run, an Erickson Senior Living community in Matthews, N.C., first opened its doors to residents, the community has grown by leaps and bounds. As the end of the year approaches, community members and staff are reflecting on this exciting year of accomplishments and milestones, including:
1. Successful vaccinations
Thanks to Windsor Run’s commitment to sustaining the health of each community and staff member, beginning in February, COVID-19 vaccinations were offered through a variety of well-orchestrated, on-site vaccine clinics. Patty Roberts, a community member who attended one of the clinics, acknowledges its success. “The vaccine event was well organized and ran very smoothly. Kudos to the staff for their planning and organizing.”
2. Newest addition
October 2021 marked the opening of White Oak Terrace, the newest independent living residential building at Windsor Run. “We are thrilled to meet the strong demand for the active, engaging Windsor Run lifestyle with an additional 113 new apartment homes at White Oak Terrace,” says Winsor Run Executive Director George Comfort. All of the apartment homes in White Oak Terrace include amenities already popular at Windsor Run: airy layouts; modernized kitchens with granite countertops and stainless-steel appliances; full-sized, side-by-side washers and dryers; spacious walk-in closets; and custom flooring and light fixtures.
“We listened carefully to what our current residents and priority list members enjoy most about apartment homes already on campus,” says Sales Director Ryan Barkley. “As a result, White Oak Terrace features designs that best meet the needs of our community, including the extra-large Hawthorne floor plan, which features two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a porch.”
3. Promise fulfilled
Honoring the commitment to provide Windsor Run residents with all levels of care, Piedmont Overlook, a continuing care neighborhood, opened its doors in September. Although most residents will never need to take advantage of these services, the new community will provide assisted living, memory care, post-acute rehabilitation, and nursing care services, right on the Windsor Run campus.
4. Record number of priority list members
One of the many unexpected results of the COVID-19 crisis was a desire to restructure priorities and make plans for the future. As a result, prospective residents, many of whom planned a move to Windsor Run at a future date, recognized the value of the vast safety net available to community members. This translated to an increased demand for a dynamic retirement lifestyle and a record number of priority list members.
5. Planning ahead
In a continued effort to meet the high level of demand for the Windsor Run lifestyle, site work commenced this summer on two new independent living residential buildings. These new additions are anticipated to open in 2023.
6. Active real estate market
Throughout the year, the Charlotte area real estate market remained red-hot. Partnering with Erickson Realty and Moving Services, sales team members helped future residents move to Windsor Run using a combination of in-person and online technology to help them stage their home for sale, downsize, and create a packing/moving plan.
7. Award winner
For the second consecutive year, Windsor Run was named Best Retirement Community in the 2021 Readers’ Choice Awards, presented by South Charlotte Lifestyle magazine.
“The past year certainly presented unique challenges, but the residents and employees of Windsor Run were steadfast in maintaining a positive culture,” says Comfort.
“Everyone’s resilience and commitment to caring for each other are inspiring as staff members continue to deliver the high level of amenities and services that our residents deserve. It is an honor to be recognized as the Best Retirement Community for the second year in a row.”
8. Meaningful contributors
In 2021, more than 90 Windsor Run community members generously volunteered their time to support numerous charities, including the Alzheimer's Association and two local organizations, the Matthews Help Center and the Harvest Center.
9. Third anniversary
On May 15, Windsor Run celebrated its third anniversary with pride. Barkley points to the community’s high occupancy rates—above the industry average—to attest for the high demand. “During the first six months of 2021, prior to the opening of White Oak Terrace, Windsor Run was at 100% capacity,” he notes, due in large part to the strong pandemic responses, unmatched financial strength, unbeatable amenities and services, and access to on-site medical care. “This is a testament to the dedication of our staff, who provides the highest level of service to our residents,” he adds.
10. Eating well
This fall, the Willows, Windsor Run’s fourth on-site restaurant, opened to rave reviews. The bistro-style, full-service restaurant features entrée favorites, including crab stuffed river trout and saffron infused tomato seafood stew.
