Margaret Suit, Vice President of Architecture, Design, and Development at Erickson Senior Living, was named as one of three recipients of the 2024 Design Champions awards presented by Environments for Aging (EFA) magazine.
According to the publication, the annual program, now in its sixth year, “honors three visionaries for their groundbreaking work. These leaders are creating new models for continuing care retirement communities that foster stronger connections between residents and their environments; developing tools that help project teams overcome barriers and reimagine inclusive spaces; and challenging traditional senior living models with fresh approaches that balance resident care and financial sustainability.”
Suit was recognized for being instrumental “in shaping (Erickson Senior Living’s) footprint and communities. She’s contributed to the design and development of 25 campuses nationwide, which house more than 30,000 residents, and manages the design processes for all developing Erickson communities.”
“We are proud that Margaret received this national honor that recognizes her professionalism and creativity,” said Sean Sands, Chief Development Officer. “For more than 31 years, the scope of her work has gone far beyond the design and development of beautiful buildings. Her impact takes her directly to fulfilling our mission of bringing positive experiences to the residents and team members who live and work in our communities across the country. She also serves as a tireless and inspirational mentor for a new generation of senior living professionals.”
In her leadership role with Erickson Senior Living, Suit is responsible for managing and guiding new campus development through the architectural design process with specific regard to the coordination of master planning, common area programming, and design of the company’s independent living and continuing care products.
Her primary focus is to ensure that the building designs support the operational programs, conform to regional-based market demands, and enhance the resident experience.
“Margaret continues to adapt her approach as the needs of our customers evolve,” said J.J. Wilhour, Senior Vice President of Development, “The new continuing care retirement project under construction in Bethesda, Maryland, The Grandview, is a prime example of her innovation in creating an exciting concept in an urban area. We are excited to see the benefits of her work when the community opens in the fall of 2025.”
The 2024 winners will be recognized during the magazine’s Awards Luncheon at the 2025 Environments for Aging Conference + Expo, April 26-29, 2025 in Lexington, Kentucky.
