Highland Springs Residents Look Forward to a New Year of Worry-Free Living

December 20, 2023
Residents of Highland Springs in North Dallas share their reasons for optimism in 2024!

When Norma Hill listed her house over a decade ago, she had no idea that she'd be moving into an apartment home at Highland Springs, an Erickson Senior Living community in North Dallas, Tex.

"When I put my house up for sale, it sold so quickly that I didn't have time to think. I just walked in the doors of Highland Springs and said, 'I've got to have a place to live!'" Norma recalls, with a chuckle.

Now, Norma is thankful that her decision landed her an engaging, worry-free lifestyle--that she plans on making the most of in 2024!

Worry-free living

Before she decided to sell, Norma had come to realize that her house, which dated back 50 years, was requiring an increasing amount of attention and repairs.

"It was an old house," she says. "My hot water heater went out, I needed my heating and air conditioning replaced, and I got a plumbing leak in the kitchen--all in the same week!"

Ready to embrace a retirement free from maintenance, Highland Springs was Norma's first choice.

"They showed me five apartment homes," she recalls. "I chose one and moved in. It was that simple!"

Thanks to the convenient monthly service package, which covers everything from appliance repairs and utilities to meals at on-site restaurants, residents enjoy maintenance-free apartment homes and more time to pursue their passions.

"Now, when a maintenance issue arises, I just pick up the phone and call General Services," she notes.

More on the horizon

In addition to her worry-free lifestyle, Norma cites another reason why her excitement for 2024 is shining so bright: planned upgrades and the opening of the community's third neighborhood, Cypress Landing.

"Seeing the growth of this community has been amazing," says Norma.

Christina Christie, Highland Springs' sales director, notes that many of Norma's neighbors feel the same way. "Residents appreciate how the community continuously evolves to meet their needs," she says.

As these upgrades and Cypress Landing take shape, the 89-acre campus will boast even more industry-leading amenities and services.

"We are in the process of reconfiguring a portion of Hillcrest Clubhouse, including Chisholm's Restaurant," explains Christie. "This refresh will elevate the dining experience."

Other upgrades will include an expanded, state-of-the-art woodshop, designed with resident input; an indoor pickleball court at Cypress Landing; and reimagined courtyards.

"Positive energy and partnership are alive and well as we progress into our third neighborhood," says Executive Director Matt Neville.

Christie adds, "Highland Springs' continued growth allows us to reach more seniors and provide more opportunities for current residents."

Norma, who has witnessed the opening of six residence buildings since she moved in, is eager to welcome more neighbors. "There is always excitement in the community as we meet the newcomers!"

Supportive environment

For Barbara Verbonich, the community's supportive environment fuels her positive outlook on 2024.

Barbara and her husband Mark moved to Highland Springs in June 2021. When Mark passed away unexpectedly in 2022, the friends Barbara made in that short period of time rallied around her for support.

"I am really cared for here," she says.

This year, she's looking forward to strengthening those friendships--and making new ones.

"We started a third-floor hall hangout on the third Sunday of each month in Crestview Terrace," Barbara says. "Building community is important to me."

Above and beyond

Highland Springs' lifestyle, amenities, and services--reasons why residents like Norma and Barbara are excited for the New Year--are enhanced by employees who go above and beyond every day.

"The staff is terrific," Barbara says. "They are here largely because of their commitment to serving seniors. Everyone was attuned to my sudden life change, which meant the world to me."

Norma couldn't agree more. "The staff here are really friendly, and they go out of their way to do whatever they can for us," she says. "They do all the little extra things with a smile."

Neville notes that staff member support is crucial to helping residents live life to the fullest.

"The positive result is that residents can experience a worry-free lifestyle, complete with meaningful social connections and convenient opportunities to do the things they enjoy," he says. "2024 is an exciting, new chapter for all of our residents!"
