DALLAS, TX---For Barbara Blachly, Community Resources Coordinator at Highland Springs retirement community, history has been a lifelong interest.
Ms. Blachly taught four years of the subject at nearby J.J. Pearce High School in Richardson, TX, and she is surrounded by residents at the Erickson Living retirement community who love it, too.
So when it was time to plan a trip for residents in September, Ms. Blachly decided to take a worldwide tour---right in Dallas.
Along with Walt Thieme, a resident, and Francisco Sanchez, Transportation Supervisor at Highland Springs, Ms. Blachly scouted locations in July and created what she calls the "fake-cation" for September 8th.
The tour will feature visits to points of interest in the Dallas metroplex that are modeled after world renowned historical structures. The group will begin its journey at "Independence Hall" at Dallas Baptist University and then travel to the "White House" in Irving, "London's Crystal Palace" at the Infomart in downtown Dallas, "Mount Vernon" at the H.L. Hunt Estate and finally the "Pantheon Rotunda" at Southern Methodist University.
"This will be a great way to experience our beloved Dallas and a real 'eye-opener' for residents regarding the amazing architecture found in our city," stated Ms. Blachly.
At each location, residents will discuss the historical significance of the buildings and take photos. The outing is part of the Special Trips program at Highland Springs, offering local excursions and vacation travel throughout the United States and the world.
"We're looking to have an educational, yet fun, time as we take in the world...in one of the world's greatest cities," said Ms. Blachly.
