Highland Springs Provides 'Freedom from Maintenance' For This Couple

Residents of Highland Springs in North Dallas can feel peace of mind from the financial model of the Erickson Senior Living community.

When Gale Quint and her husband Stephen Holder were researching retirement living options for her mother, they found that Highland Springs, the Erickson Senior Living community in North Dallas, Tex., stood above the rest for many reasons.

"When we visited campus, we saw the nice amenities and experienced the fun of socializing in the restaurants," recalls Gale. "Although we were looking for my mom, we fell in love with Highland Springs ourselves!"

Although they were immediately drawn to the community's vibrant lifestyle, the couple was also impressed with the affordable, comprehensive pricing.

"We compared our monthly expenses and the projected cost of updating our house to the price of moving to Highland Springs," she explains. "We were pleasantly surprised to discover that moving made more sense financially!"

Since settling into their apartment home in 2021, Gale and Stephen find it easier to budget their hard-earned savings and live an active lifestyle with tons of amenities and activities right outside their door.

Peace of mind

Highland Springs' pricing structure is made up of two components: a 90% refundable entrance deposit* and a monthly service package.

The 90% refundable entrance deposit, which is used to secure your desired apartment home, goes back to you or your beneficiaries, if or when you leave the community.

"Between the 90% refundable entrance deposit and the on-site continuing care, we love that Highland Springs has safety nets in place with our best interests in mind," Gale says.

The predictable monthly service package covers the cost of all utilities except phone and internet; a meal plan at on-site restaurants; maintenance, including repair and replacement of appliances; access to amenities; regularly scheduled transportation; and much more.

"One of our biggest considerations was freedom from maintenance," notes Gale, who is now able to call General Services when a lightbulb goes out or a faucet leaks. "It's a lot easier to pick up the phone and talk with people you know--people who will fix it and fix it right--instead of finding a repair person yourself."

More for your money

Finance Director Kevin Adamic notes that when retirees consider a move to Highland Springs, they are making a strategic financial decision.

"Financial stability is a big part of what makes living at Highland Springs so attractive to residents," Adamic says. "Highland Springs also offers a huge convenience factor. We have eight restaurants, a fitness center, library, theater, and medical center. Residents never have to leave campus if they don't want to!"

He continues, "It's also important for us to keep our apartment homes updated, including additions like granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, and vinyl plank flooring."

Recently, the community completed some larger projects, including a $2 million restaurant refresh in the first clubhouse. "Now, it's a fine dining, elevated experience," he says.

Sales Director Christina Christie adds, "When people visit Highland Springs and see our apartment homes and amenities, they're often surprised to learn how much value they get for their money. Living at Highland Springs is more accessible than many people realize."

Amenities galore

Gale and Stephen are thrilled with their apartment home in Cypress Landing, which is part of the Eastside Village Clubhouse--a bustling epicenter with the Crescent Club restaurant and bar, a fitness center with a pickleball court, a lounge area, classroom, and card room.

"The offerings at the fitness center are great, and the pool's available when you want to use it," says Gale, who also enjoys walking their dogs around the beautiful campus daily. "And administration does a great job at evolving the amenities to meet our interests and needs."

Everywhere in the community is still just a short, indoor walk away. "For example, when Stephen had his annual checkup at the medical center, it was raining, but he stayed safe and dry by going through climate-controlled walkways to get to his great physician--one of the best in Dallas," she notes.

A smart decision

In their home filled with amenities, activities, social connections, and services, Gale and Stephen have witnessed their investment pay off in more ways than one.

"We're very happy with things at Highland Springs," says Gale. "We gained more than an apartment home. We gained a caring community of people who take care of each other."

And now that Gale's mom is settled in at the community, as well, it's even easier to spend time together. "You can't put a price on that!" she says.
