Highland Springs Has the Olympics Spirit!

July 26, 2024
Residents and employees of Highland Springs, an Erickson Senior Living community in North Dallas, held their own Olympic Games this summer.

The XXXIII Olympiad begins on July 26 in Paris with more than 10,500 athletes scheduled to compete in 329 events. Billions of viewers worldwide will be captivated and watching on their televisions and smart devices!

Residents and team members of Highland Springs, an Erickson Senior Living community in North Dallas, have caught the Olympic spirit, too!

They participated in the annual Olympics of Highland Springs, a five-day event held in June and sponsored by the community’s Fitness Center and Community Resources Team. Nearly 150 residents and employees registered for friendly competition, which included everything from disc golf and horseshoes to billiards and cornhole. There were even opening and closing ceremonies to light the torch representing “Highland Springs Spirit” and celebrate the winners and participants.

“The activities we promoted for this year’s Olympics encouraged residents to try something new, show off their skills, and even support their fellow neighbors,” noted Amber Newman, fitness manager. “Sports has always been a wonderful way to challenge yourself and make connections, both of which boost your physical and mental health.”

Residents play a key role in the coordination of the games, too. They keep an eye on making sure the proper equipment is in place and that the rules are being followed for each game. Sometimes, they even serve as the official judges! It is a tremendous partnership because it encourages participation and the opportunity to build new relationships.

With the Olympics getting started in Paris, the enthusiasm for the event is sky high at Highland Springs.

“The Resident Life Team loves hosting this event, and it is a phenomenal experience for residents and team members to interact,” said Amber. “We’re all looking forward to watching the Olympic Games in Paris, but our Olympics will always be our favorite!”
