Emerson Lakes Will Be Positioned for Full-Service Care

With the initial phase of construction now underway at Emerson Lakes, Erickson Senior Living's newest community in Lakewood Ranch, Fla., hundreds of maintenance-free residences and industry-leading amenities are on the rise.

The first phase of development will bring Sandhill Point, the community's first residence building, and Coral Ridge, a two-story, 50,000-square-foot clubhouse. Sandhill Point will introduce 105 new residences, while Coral Ridge will feature two restaurants, a fitness studio, a pool, a game room, a card room, and a creative arts studio.

As a planned continuing care retirement community (CCRC), Emerson Lakes will also boast an on-campus medical center, which will be located on the first level of Coral Ridge.

Residents will receive exceptional care from Emerson Lakes' team of doctors and other healthcare providers, who specialize in senior-focused care and work seamlessly together to support their health and well-being.

"The importance of specialized medical expertise cannot be overstated," says Sales Director Adam Zubowsky. "And not having to get in the car, drive across town, and sit in a waiting room is a real draw for prospective residents. They can just walk down the hall and see their doctor!"

Specialized care

Emerson Lakes' medical center will feature five state-of-the-art examination and consultation rooms, a comfortable waiting room, and a lab area for bloodwork.

Experienced medical professionals will initially include a staff physician and practice administrator. As the practice grows along with the community, a nurse practitioner, a social worker, and a podiatrist will join the medical center team. Our providers will offer all primary care needs, including regularly scheduled follow-ups, same-day visits, full lab services, and preventive care including vaccinations.

Residents can request in-person appointments or telehealth calls, depending on what they prefer.

In addition, subspecialists like dentists, audiologists, cardiologists, and optometrists will visit the community regularly.

Across all Erickson Senior Living communities, providers average 17 years of clinical experience--and that will be the case for Emerson Lakes as well. Providers also pride themselves on taking all the time they need to address residents' questions and concerns thoroughly.

A study of more than 21 million primary care visits published by PubMed, the National Library of Medicine's database, found that, on average, primary care visits in the U.S. last 18 minutes.

By contrast, Erickson Senior Living's physicians spend as much as an hour with residents during their initial appointments, providing ample time for questions and to create the foundation for a trusting relationship. Subsequent appointments are allotted a full 30 minutes, so residents can be assured that all of their health care needs are met.

Zubowsky, who previously worked at Avery Point, an Erickson Senior Living community in Short Pump, Va., witnessed the difference that this compassionate care makes.

"Most residents feel so comfortable that they make the on-campus medical center their primary care practice," he explains. "They develop strong relationships with our on-site providers and benefit from their expertise as specialists in senior health care."

Whether future residents plan on designating Emerson Lakes' medical center as their primary care practice or simply stopping by for sick visits, a detailed health history always remains on file. The Erickson Health Medical Group utilizes an electronic medical records system, ensuring that all providers at the medical center have access to vital information.

Records can be shared with providers outside of the community as well, in case residents are referred to another specialist. Providers often consult with the fitness center manager to develop a program that supports a resident's medical treatment plan.

And if an emergency call is placed to security after the medical center closes, details are shared with the medical team's "huddle" to determine follow-up care.

"This optimal communication helps provide the best care possible," says Zubowsky.

"At an Erickson Senior Living community, you get a higher level of preventative care and attention than if you were living at home. Here, everyone works together for your health and well-being."

Should a resident's healthcare needs ever change, higher levels of care will be available when the continuing care neighborhood is built on campus.

The medical center and continuing care neighborhood teams will also be integrated, offering residents seamless, high-quality care. Because it follows a pay-as-you-go model, residents only pay for the services they need.

"This provides peace of mind for many prospective residents," notes Zubowsky. "No matter what the future holds, they're able to live in the same vibrant community with newfound friends while having access to top-notch care."
