Work-life balance is a requirement for many job seekers in today's job market. During her seven years with Seabrook, an Erickson Senior Living community in Tinton Falls, New Jersey, Samira Augustin has found just that.

Samira joined the dining staff at the community as a student server in 2016, and found her co-workers supportive of her responsibilities outside of her job, just as much as her performance while at work.

"They have worked with my availability as a student and have always been accommodating," says Samira. "They actually prioritize school. I'm thankful for that."

Educational advancement

In addition to flexibility, Erickson also provides career growth opportunities for all team members. Students may apply for a $12,000 scholarship, available to those on staff for at least two years.

Samira's scholarship funded her enrollment in a certified nursing assistant (CNA) program, which she completed last winter, and she was promoted to a care associate position in March. The scholarship is also applicable to nursing school, which she is attending locally.

Samira "tested the waters" through a cross training program. She spent two weeks in the community's continuing care neighborhood, shadowing a nurse mentor to determine her interest in the career.

"If I wasn't working at Seabrook, I wouldn't get as much experience and training outside of school," she admits.

Samira may also take advantage of another community benefit for those looking to further their education: tuition reimbursement. Erickson offers up to 100% reimbursement for those looking to elevate their careers or pursue specialization in a different area.

Overall well-being

"We’re investing in the future of the people who work here,” says Jim MacDonald, human resources director. “We’re committed to see people succeed both here and outside of work. We know that the mind-body-soul all go together, and the richer somebody is in those areas, the better they're going to be overall as an individual in the world and our community.”

Erickson Senior Living’s comprehensive benefits and total rewards programs are aimed at providing a vibrant work environment, financial stability and benefits, and prioritizing health and well-being. This is accomplished through the provision of multiple health care plan options and choices for medical, dental, and vision coverage, and disability insurance. Optional insurances cover critical illness, identity and fraud, prepaid legal, auto and home, and pet care.

The onsite Health and Wellness Department is open exclusively for team members for annual wellness visits, resources for emotional and physical concerns, laboratory work, and even urgent care while at work or outside of work hours. The Wellness Fund, available for enrollees in the health plan, provides a $260 annual refund for products or services that promote health, like gym memberships, fitness equipment, gym memberships, and even athletic shoes. There’s also an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) with programs for mental, emotional, and financial wellbeing. A health advocate fitness tracking program enables team members to follow activity progress.

Other benefits include a company-matched 401K plan and paid time off with vacation, sick, personal leave and volunteer hours all included. There’s also the convenience of a bank branch and drug store onsite.

“We are highly regarded in our annual engagement surveys and on the area best place to work surveys,” Macdonald notes. “We are known for our warm and welcoming environment, competitive benefits and trainings, and our team members and managers who are pleasant to work with. People are proud to be part of an organization that is known for its integrity and the way we care for our team members.”
