Resident Casey Antonakos Finds the Abbott Floor Plan to be the Perfect Choice

Although Casey Antonakos is busy most days gardening, playing shuffleboard, and line dancing, she somehow still finds time to go to the gym and socialize with friends over dinner.
That's thanks to the worry-free lifestyle she adopted when she moved to Oak Crest, an Erickson Senior Living community in Parkville, Md., in 2020 from her condo in Bel Air, Md.
"I loved my condo. It was private and looked out onto a wooded creek," says Casey. "But it wasn't until I moved here that I realized how much time I wasted sitting alone at home and watching TV. I wasn't involved in activities or with my friends like I am now."
Oak Crest offers a variety of studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom residences--all maintenance-free--for retirees who want to live life to the fullest without being tied down by upkeep and repairs.
"My condo was beautiful, but the advantages of living at Oak Crest really outweigh that!" Casey adds.
Home sweet home
Casey chose one of Oak Crest's most distinctive studio floor plans, the Abbott. This layout features ample living space, a modern kitchen, full bath, and walk-in closet.
"I just love the simplicity of my apartment and that I don't have such a huge space to take care of," says Casey. "I like to bake and cook, and I have a full kitchen when I want to do that."
To personalize her home, Casey decided to replace her walk-in shower with a bathtub and create an open layout in her kitchen by removing a built-in table.
Custom Interiors
Upgrades like these--and much more--are planned and executed by Oak Crest's Custom Interiors team.
Other residents have requested new crown molding, built-in closets, upgraded lighting or flooring, fresh paint, and window treatments.
The best part of her home? It's worry-free! The community's monthly service package bundles electricity, water, cable, and Wi-Fi into one predictable bill, and all maintenance and repairs are handled by the General Services team.
In addition, the 90% refundable entrance fee* helps protect Casey's nest egg while promoting a financial legacy for her family, making it an ideal option.
Newfound freedom
Although Casey resides in a studio, she is truly living large at Oat Crest. "I'm located near the fitness center and pool in Town Center with a view of Lake Victoria," she says.
The community boasts an array of other industry-leading amenities and activities, including an art studio, bocce courts, on-site educational classes, theater groups, and dozens of opportunities for volunteering.
"You're not just getting a residence, you're getting an entire community," says Sales Manager Drew Montgomery. "Beautifully landscaped courtyards and flower gardens become your backyard, relaxing lounges transform into your extended living room, and you get your choice of eight restaurants with endless meal options."
With such a large selection of restaurants on campus, it's not surprising that many residents enjoy letting someone else do the cooking--including Casey.
"There is such a great variety. I look at the menus and decide what I want to eat and that determines where I will go," says Casey.
She also appreciates having the ability to reserve a private dining room, which can accommodate up to 20 guests, where she can host family and friends for holidays or special events.
"It's great because we get to enjoy our own private celebration and I don't have to cook or clean it up," she says.
Active and engaged
Casey, celebrating five years at Oak Crest, is proud to call such a vibrant, amenity-rich community home.
"I've been much more active since moving here. The entire community is your home, and we have activities all hours of the day and night," says Casey. "I play shuffleboard and bocce. I use the pool and fitness center. There is a nightly group who plays board games."
She adds "I always say, ‘You don't know what you don't know.' You think you have a great life and are doing everything you want--until you discover there are other options out there! My kids always say this is the best gift I could have given them."
