PARKVILLE, MD---Delmarva Foundation for Medical Care, the Medicare Quality Improvement Organization for Maryland, has awarded a 2013 Committed to Excellence Award to the continuing care neighborhood of Oak Crest, the Erickson Living retirement community.
Oak Crest received the award for the category of pressure ulcer reduction in residents living in the skilled nursing neighborhood.
Oak Crest has been an active participant in the National Nursing Home Quality Care Collaborative (NNHQCC). The Collaborative is a national quality improvement initiative that includes almost 5,000 nursing homes across the United States working to improve the lives of their nursing home residents.
"It is an honor to have the opportunity to recognize Oak Crest as a recipient of the Delmarva Foundation Committed to Excellence Award," said Jacqueline Hairston, RN Delmarva Project Manager. "Recipients of this award have demonstrated a strong commitment to excellence and providing quality care for their residents. Oak Crest's exemplary leadership and staff are to be commended for their success this year. Delmarva congratulates them on their achievements and looks forward to our continued collaboration to improve the health of Maryland's Medicare beneficiaries."

The clinical topics of focus for 2013 included a reduction in the use of antipsychotic medication, falls, pressure ulcers, urinary tract infections and reducing the number of residents requiring transfer back to a hospital. To receive the 2013 award, the nursing homes must have met the following criteria:
