Oak Crest Pianists Make Beautiful Music with New Addition

February 6, 2013

PARKVILLE, MD---With beautiful pieces of Bach, Chopin and Beethoven performed by the Oak Crest Pianists, residents and guests of the Erickson Living retirement community celebrated a new addition to its Chapel: a Kawai grand piano.
The dedication of the piano was the centerpiece of the January 31st concert.  The purchase of the Kawai was made possible through the generous bequest of Vivian Yarnell, a former resident of Oak Crest.
"The piano is an important part of life at Oak Crest and the community at-large.  In addition to the role it plays in supporting musical ministry, the piano is an integral part of performances given in the Chapel by the Oak Crest Village Chorus and the Oak Crest Pianists," stated Sallie Horner, Community Concert Coordinator.
The piano is pivotal to the full concerts that occur at least once each month.  It has been the featured instrument in performances by Eva Mengelkoch, Chad Bowles, Reynaldo Reyes and the piano duo, Brengle & Horneff.
Collaboration between pianist and other performers have included Monica Szabo-Nyeste with Eva Mengelkoch, Barczyk and Borowsky, American Virtuosi and the Kuznik Trio.
In 2013, the new Kawai will ring again with the artistry of Chad Bowles, Barczyk and Borowsky, American Virtuosi and the Kuznik Trio.  Oak Crest will also host the Towson University Chamber Ensembles for the sixteenth year.
"The grand piano will support the spiritual life of the community, enhance performance opportunities for residents and guests and enable us to continue to attract quality performers of international reputation," stated Ms. Horner.
