May 9, 2014

PARKVILLE, MD---They are America's future teachers, mechanical engineers and physicians' assistants.
Twenty-six students employed in the Dining Services Department of Oak Crest, the Erickson Living retirement community, were honored for their academic achievement and workplace leadership during the 18th Annual Scholars' Award Ceremony held on April 23rd.
The recipients earned collegiate scholarships valued at $1,000 per year for a four-year total of $4,000.
Todd Sullivan is the Director of Philanthropy at Oak Crest.  During the ceremony, he announced that $136,757 had been raised during the 2014 Student Scholar Fundraising Drive that began in March.  The contributions came mainly from donations by residents as well as resident organizations and employees.
"The awards ceremony is a celebration of a two-way street of generosity between our residents and these talented students," described Mr. Sullivan.  "It is the appropriate time to thank the residents for their amazing kindness, the parents and family members for providing a path of success for their children and the students for sharing their talents here each and every day."
In its 18th year, the Student Scholars program has raised over $2.36 million, assisting 671 students to advance their education.
