PARKVILLE, MD—Oak Crest, the Erickson Living retirement community, earned Top 5 Finalist status in the large business category of the 2014 Best Places to Work Awards, sponsored by the Baltimore Business Journal.
Finalists were recognized at an awards luncheon held at the Baltimore Hilton Hotel on West Pratt Street on October 16th.
"The recognition earned by Oak Crest in the Best Places to Work contest confirms what I see every day," described Gary Hibbs, Executive Director. "Serving the residents is the number one priority, and our employees do it by fulfilling our mission in a way that fosters inclusion and celebrates life."
"It is an honor and privilege to work with such a fabulous team," stated Mr. Hibbs.
The workforce of Oak Crest is comprised of 1,281 full and part time employees. As the campus serves older adults, Oak Crest values the age diversity—from 14 to 87--within its workforce.
301 employees have worked at Oak Crest for 10+ years.
The greatest endorsement comes directly from the people Oak Crest serves. The 2013 Resident Satisfaction Survey revealed that 96.1% of residents would "recommend Oak Crest to a friend or relative."
The contest was highly competitive. The publication noted that over two hundred businesses in the Baltimore region applied for consideration in one of four categories. It was the third consecutive time that Oak Crest received Top 5 status or higher.
"For this years edition of Best Places to Work, we focused on the practices and the culture that make these offices desirable workplaces," wrote Jenn Ladd, Associate Editor of the Baltimore Business Journal. "But many companies — with and without envy-inducing perks — emphasized great co-working relationships as the reason why their offices are the Best Places to Work. Many employees also cited the meaningfulness of their work as the best quality of their business."
Nominations were accepted by the Baltimore Business Journal beginning in the spring. Following the application process, a required number of employees at each company were needed to complete a workplace survey to "gauge agreement with statements ranging from trustworthiness of bosses to their own job performance." Quantum Workplace, a research partner of the Baltimore Business Journal, graded the surveys and sent the results back to the news outlet.
