Everyone Loves a Parade, Especially Oak Crest's Ilse Harrop

July 7, 2014

PARKVILLE, MD---Last October, Oak Crest resident Ilse Harrop made the trip to Glen Burnie to receive induction into the Maryland Senior Citizens Hall of Fame.
Nearly nine months later, that honor got her a prime spot in one of the largest and longest-standing Independence Day events in the Baltimore area.
Ms. Harrop rode in the Towson Fourth of July Parade in an Oak Crest sedan driven by William "Bill" Pohlman, a security dispatcher for the Erickson Living retirement community.
Donning patriotic red, white and blue attire, Ms. Harrop enthusiastically waved to attendees.  A contingent of residents and employees from Oak Crest joined in the celebration.
She was part of the Class of 2013, comprised of thirty-six (36) citizens from across the state.
The Maryland Senior Citizens Hall of Fame is a nonprofit organization that seeks to immortalize men and women and to record their names in the Archives of the Hall of Fame because of their caring and volunteer efforts.  Ms. Harrop was recognized for a lifetime of volunteerism with Johns Hopkins University, the Red Cross and Oak Crest.
