Oak Crest's Intergenerational Pen Pal Program Featured on NPR

Oak Crest, an Erickson Senior Living community in Parkville, MD, recently received national attention when its Intergenerational Pen Pal Program was featured on All Things Considered, a National Public Radio (NPR) program.

The NPR broadcast highlights the joy and impact of the program, showing how a simple letter can bridge generations and create lasting relationships.

The program pairs Oak Crest residents with third-grade students from nearby Kingsville Elementary School, fostering enriching educational connections through letter writing. Throughout the school year, residents and students exchange letters, sharing life stories and experiences, asking questions, and learning from each other. The program culminates in an end-of-year celebration where pen pals meet in person to enjoy games, snacks, and conversations at the continuing care retirement community.
