Senior housing industry leaders help Baltimore students realize their full potential

Baltimore, Md. – October 29, 2019 – With a passion for serving Baltimore's youth, Erickson Living, a nation-leading developer and manager of continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs) and National Senior Campuses, Inc. (NSC) the largest continuing care retirement community governance board in the United States, have become part of the Thread network of volunteers, collaborators and donors who are committed to fostering students' academic advancement and personal growth. 

Thread harnesses the power of relationships to create a new social fabric of diverse individuals deeply engaged with young people facing the most significant opportunity and achievement gaps. The Thread community is committed to ending social isolation and building a more equitable culture in which everyone thrives. 

At a time when Baltimore's neighborhoods and students are in need of valued support, Erickson Living and NSC's shared commitment to serving as strong community partners is enriching lives and helping students realize their full potential.

It is in this spirit that Erickson Living and NSC came together and recently made a $20,000 donation to Thread in care of the Tim Moriconi Lifestyle Support Scholarship. In memory of Moriconi, whose tragic passing has deeply pained his Baltimore community, Thread created the fund to support students and volunteers, deepening their relationships and fostering understanding and care for one another, despite differences in age, race, income, or experiences.

In addition to generous financial support, Thread students have the opportunity to benefit from meaningful employment at Maryland communities managed by Erickson Living, such as Oak Crest, Riderwood, and Charlestown, where Thread students directly serve residents as part of the dining services staff.

"Creating solutions for employment and career advancement opportunities is absolutely critical to developing the full potential of these students," said Debra Doyle, Chief Operating Officer at Erickson Living. "It's our hope that by working together to provide meaningful employment and support to help meet students' basic needs, we can affect lasting positive change, both for them and our larger community."

Investing in the success of local students has been part of the Erickson Living's legacy. Last year, Erickson Living-managed communities raised (based on contributions from residents, staff and community partners) more than $2.8 million as a part of local Student Scholarship Fund Campaigns. This spirit of generosity is now helping more than 1,480 former student-workers with their undergraduate careers and future dreams.
