After considering their senior living options, Carlisle "Carly" and Klaus Lampmann knew that a continuing care retirement community (CCRC) would be the best fit for their lifestyle.
"We were looking for a community with fun, friendly neighbors we could share our lives with," says Carly. "Spacious, beautiful apartment homes--with maintenance taken care of--was another item on our wish list."
The couple found exactly what they were looking for at Devonshire, an Erickson Senior Living community at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
"We looked at 12 different CCRCs across three states," says Carly. "We toured Devonshire last because we thought we knew the community, since it was so close to where we lived in BallenIsles. But, after touring campus, we discovered that we saved the best for last!"
Home sweet home
With their sights set on Devonshire, the Lampmanns began looking for the perfect apartment home. Working with the sales team, Carly and Klaus quickly narrowed in on The Presidential, a deluxe two-bedroom, three-bath floor plan with a den and terrace.
"As we were moving from a large house, the size of The Presidential really appealed to us. It's very open and bright, with large windows in each room," says Carly. "We also liked all the wall space that could accommodate our pieces of artwork."
The layout of the rooms was also an important factor in the couple's decision-making process.
"We like the that the terrace is just off the great room," she says. "We also appreciate how the guest bedroom and bathroom are on one side of the unit and the primary bedroom and bath are on the other. Everything flows together so nicely."
And with a prime location on the fourth floor, Carly and Klaus would also enjoy a view of ponds and wetlands.
Personalize your space
To personalize their apartment home before moving in, the Lampmanns partnered with a friend and the Custom Interiors team at Devonshire.
"We have a friend who is an interior designer who offered to help us make some changes," says Carly. "We built a private entry into the primary bedroom, extended the kitchen, and turned the air-conditioning unit around so that the return wasn't in the living room."
All of the renovations were performed and managed by Devonshire and their trusted vendors, vetted for quality and customer service.
"Everyone was helpful and responsive, meeting all of our needs," says Carly. "All of the work was very well-done and went smoothly."
An active lifestyle
After settling in, the couple decided to further transform their apartment home by turning their second bedroom into a space that could function as both a guest room and a workout room.
"Now, it's a wonderful space for guests and an afternoon sweat session!" says Carly. "Klaus and I designed a Murphy bed with storage. This way, we have a space for guests, but when we don't have visitors, we have a stationary bike, weights, and a weight bench conveniently ready for us to use."
Carly and Klaus have remained physically active around campus as well.
"Our home workout room complements our workouts in the fitness center nicely," she notes. "We take exercise classes together as well, and we love taking our dog Harley for long walks around campus. Devonshire is a very dog-friendly community."
Fun with friends
Carly and Klaus have busy social calendars, as well, participating in numerous activities and events with neighbors and newfound friends.
"I volunteer on the Resident Advisory Council's landscaping and house committees," says Carly. "Klaus volunteers on the maintenance and engineering and security committees and plays poker with neighbors."
And, as longtime PGA National members, the Lampmanns are making the most of the amenities they have enjoyed for years--now just a short stroll away.
"We were excited to continue our membership," says Carly. "We use the gym and dine at the club, and Klaus plays croquet on their course. It's nice to have such a robust resort close by."
Living life to the fullest
Whether hosting neighbors in their beautiful apartment home or participating in a variety of campus and PGA National activities, the Lampmanns value how friendly everyone is.
"The community members at Devonshire are wonderful," she notes. "When we moved in, we were embraced with open arms. There is a real sense of community here! If you're thinking about making a move to Devonshire, you should. You can enjoy life to the fullest here."
