Preston Woods, the sixth residence building at Avery Point, the Erickson Senior Living community in Short Pump, Va., opens at the end of 2025.

Preston Woods, bringing 99 new residences to the community, will boast larger floor plans.

"In response to residents' feedback, we've changed some floor plans and are offering ones with more space--some with more than 1,800 square feet," explains Himes. "We have brought the most popular floor plans to this building as well."

Modern colorways and contemporary finishes are standard in each residence. And the 31 units that face the Little Tuckahoe Creek will come with screened-in porches.

Preston Woods will also have an array of great amenities for residents to take advantage of, including two new restaurants--bringing the total number of restaurants on campus to five, plus one bar.

The first is The Cork and Fork, a grill-style restaurant, and the other is The Cardinal Pub, a bar environment with a pub-style menu. But there's more to these two than meets the eye.

"Both of them will have outdoor seating," says Himes. "They will be on the second floor, though, so it will be like a patio but on a large balcony. It's unlike any other outdoor dining in the community."

A Life Enrichment Center is coming to Preston Woods as well. The center will include a multipurpose event space, a stage where residents can see or put on shows, an indoor pickleball court, another arts and crafts studio, and an additional card room.

Preston Woods residents will also gain access to more than 50 resident-run clubs and groups, spanning interests from genealogy and history to photography and poetry.

And because everything is run by residents, you can always start a new club with help from staff members.

"Residents can also use the fitness center and pool, which are open 24 hours a day," says Himes. "Our community is really active. Fitness classes are always booming, so we keep adding more to meet the demand."

Jacquelyn Weir, Avery Point's planning and moving consultant, notes that if you're considering a move to Preston Woods, there are plenty of resources that can help make the transition a breeze.

"When someone joins the Priority List, they can either meet with Alyssa or schedule a home visit with me. We talk about the same topics, but I come with a magnetic board with about 300 different pieces on it that we can match to the size of your furniture," says Weir. "Having the visual helps some people."

She adds, "If you're not 100% sure what floor plan styles you're interested in or what will work best for your furniture, that's okay. This is where our expertise comes in. I'll come to your house and measure the furniture you would like to bring with you. Based on that, I'll suggest some floor plans that would be a really good fit."

Weir can also recommend trusted vendors, depending on what support you need.

"From downsizing to packing and moving, we'll get you the help you need. We have your best interests at heart," says Weir. "Whether you want to recreate the space you're living in at your new residence or start fresh, we will recommend the appropriate vendors to you to make sure that we are serving you in the best way we can."
