Moving to Wind Crest Provides Financial Security and Peace of Mind

When Barb VanHorn began researching continuing care retirement communities, she did her due diligence. She wanted a place that made sense for her financially, but she didn't want to compromise on amenities and apartment homes.

Barb found everything she was looking for at Wind Crest, the Erickson Senior Living community in Highlands Ranch, Colo., which boasts predictable costs, state-of-the-art amenities, and spacious apartment homes

"Making the move to Wind Crest was and is a great financial decision for me," says Barb. "I'm really enjoying the lifestyle here!"

Predictable expenses

Wind Crest's pricing structure is made up of two components: the 90% refundable entrance deposit* and a monthly service package.

The 90% refundable entrance deposit, which is used to secure your desired apartment home, goes back to you or your beneficiaries, if or when you leave the community.

The predictable monthly service package covers the costs of utilities, except phone and internet; a meal plan at the on-site restaurants; maintenance, including repair and replacement of appliances; regularly scheduled transportation; and more.

Barb especially appreciates the monthly service package, as she knows exactly what her expenses will be. "I can plan accordingly for other expenses, savings, or 'fun money,'" she says.

"Living at Wind Crest is an attractive option that works for many different budgets," says Director of Finance Karen Lux. "Most living expenses--including property taxes and cable TV--are covered in our one monthly fee."

Great value

Sales Director Krista Wagner notes that living at Wind Crest is more economical than many people realize.

"We have a wide range of apartment homes to suit every budget and style," she says. "When people visit the campus, they're often surprised to learn how much value they can get for their money. In addition to apartment homes, residents gain a whole community filled with amenities that they wouldn't have access to in a house or at other retirement communities."

Lux adds, "And as a fee-for-service community, residents only pay for the services they want or need--meaning they get to hold onto their assets for longer."

And because Wind Crest is managed by Erickson Senior Living, a leader in the senior living industry with a 40-plus year track record of success, the community also has a strong financial foundation.

"Everything just adds up--Wind Crest is a wise financial decision!" says Lux.

Worry-free living

Barb loves living in her one-bedroom, two-bath apartment home--with her two dogs Brooke and Bella--where she no longer worries about the upkeep of a house.

"I'm thrilled that I won't have to purchase a new furnace or air conditioner ever again or budget for unexpected expenses like a new roof after a hailstorm. Houses are expensive!" says Barb. "I'm happy and relieved about not dealing with that anymore."

She also takes advantage of the opportunities right outside her door.

"The rest of the community is my home, too. I like to dine and socialize, exercise, meet and greet new friends, and take in the scenery. I enjoy walking by the pond or the Highline Canal to catch the sunset," she says. "It's just fun, and the people are friendly. I love that!"

She notes that the fitness center, pool, hot tub, and sauna are among her favorite amenities.

"They have been really enjoyable. The amenities are impressive here, and I look forward to becoming even more involved," says Barb, who often joins her new friends at restaurants on campus.

"I love the variety of dining options we have here, and the menus change monthly. On several occasions, neighbors I meet will invite me for lunch, brunch, or dinner!" she says.

Peace of mind

With an on-site medical center, Wind Crest residents also have easy access to health care. And, if additional levels of care are ever needed in the future, the community has a continuing care neighborhood.

"It's a great added bonus to living here," explains Barb. "Talk about convenience!"

While financial stability was significant to Barb and her three adult children, there's something just as important--peace of mind.

"My children can see I'm happy, secure, and comfortable here," she says. "Within a week of being here, I told my kids, 'I feel like I'm home!'"
