Physical therapist Daniel Walters found his ideal work environment during a challenging time—the covid-19 pandemic.
“At the time, I had been working in the senior living division of a home health care company, so all of my clients were at independent and assisted living communities,” says Walters, who is currently a member of the team at Wind Crest, a continuing care retirement community managed by Erickson Senior Living community located in Highlands Ranch, Colo.
When the pandemic began, Walters noticed issues at other continuing care retirement communities in his territory.
“Wind Crest was the only place that I could still go to and treat my patients,” says Walters. “The community took care of their residents and made the correct decisions to keep them safe.”
After the pandemic, Walters took some time away from patient health care. When he decided to return, he knew exactly where he wanted to be.
“My first thought was ‘I’d love to go work for Wind Crest,’” he recalls. The way he saw the community care for residents was amazing. “It was a real testimonial to how strong and good the company is, how well they took care of their residents, and the good decisions they made.”
A positive workplace
After only a few months at Wind Crest, Walters has discovered what a positive place it is to work.
“Whenever we’re passing each other in the halls, everyone smiles or says hello, and it’s really pleasant,” he says. “And I’ve already really been able to develop relationships with the residents and my patients.”
Wind Crest focuses on employees’ well-being and a healthy work-life balance, which will be especially important for Walters and his wife, Laura, who are expecting their first baby at the end of this year.
“Another reason I came to Wind Crest is because I knew it would be a good work-life balance with predictability and a steady schedule,” says Walters. “I don’t go home with hours of documentation to complete and hundreds of emails to respond to. I don’t feel pressured.”
Vibrant work environment
Erickson Senior Living offers team members a range of educational opportunities, from tuition reimbursement to professional development, as well as support for achieving their personal goals.
“The services we offer to more than 30,000 residents nationwide are only as good as the people providing them,” says Alan Butler, CEO of Erickson. “As a growth company with a bright future, we strive to be an employer of choice by providing an unparalleled workplace experience.”
In turn, team members strengthen the community through their high levels of engagement and dedicated involvement.
“Residents and employees have a strong voice in how our community operates,” says Executive Director Craig Erickson. “Employees are encouraged to make suggestions for improving the work environment or a business process.”
Walters feels included and secure because he knows Erickson has a strong financial foundation and is poised for continued growth.
“I like the stability here. The community is a good place to work, and the staff is diverse,” he says. “And unlike in other practice settings where I’ve had to work alone, I haven’t had that here. There’s always somebody around to lend a helping hand.”
