Care Centered Around You

At Wind Crest, an Erickson Senior Living community in Highlands Ranch, Colo., residents enjoy an active lifestyle supported by world-class amenities and access to quality health care. The community's on-site medical center provides one-on-one appointments, annual vaccines, electronic records, an online health portal, and access to specialists.

"We like having the medical center here on campus, primarily for the convenience," says Frank Greenwood, who, along with his wife Margie Walters, chose a Wind Crest doctor as their primary care physician. "Not only can we stay on campus, but if the weather is bad, we don't even have to go outside."

Adds Margie, "I like the fact that we have an on-call campus shuttle that will pick us up right outside our home and take us directly to the medical center!"

Expert care

The Wind Crest medical center employs full-time providers specializing in senior care including four physicians, two physician assistants, four medical assistants, and a licensed clinical social worker. In addition, specialists in cardiology, dermatology, audiology, ophthalmology, and podiatry see patients at the medical center several days a week.

"I see my dermatologist and ophthalmologist right here," says Margie.

"Our on-site medical center operates in the same way as a higher-end concierge medical practice, though there are no fees for the additional services," says Executive Director Craig Erickson. "For example, because our physicians and providers only take two appointments per hour, residents can almost always be seen for a same-day appointment. And, if a resident needs to speak with a physician after hours or on the weekends, they simply call the front desk and ask for the on-call physician to be paged."

"We've had same-day visits, and it's worked well for us," says Frank.

Erickson adds, "Our new CVS Pharmacy is just down the hall from the medical center, meaning a resident can pick up a new medication minutes after a doctor prescribes it. And if they call in a refill, CVS offers medication delivery right to their door."

If necessary, residents can also receive telehealth or home visits from the medical center. And, as a continuing care retirement community (CCRC), if a resident's medical needs change, they can receive higher levels of care including skilled nursing, assisted living, and memory care services right on campus, as well.

Working with you

If residents prefer to keep their own doctor, they can still reap the benefits of on-site medical care. By scheduling an annual appointment with a Wind Crest physician, those residents ensure that the medical care team is knowledgeable about their overall health, medications, or pre-existing conditions. They can also receive flu shots and screenings.

In certain situations, members of the Priority List are also able to use the medical center.

"If Priority List members are planning to move to Wind Crest within the next three years, or are moving in soon, they can transition to using our medical center for their primary care," says Erickson. "That way, once they're residents, they've already established a relationship with the medical staff."

A knowledgeable network

Wind Crest's medical center is managed by Erickson Senior Living, which has an exclusive network available only to residents called the Erickson Health Medical Group. It's one of the nation's largest and most completely integrated health and wellness systems for older adults.

Having such a robust network of fellow doctors who focus specifically on providing care to older adults offers many benefits.

"Physicians stay on top of late-breaking research and then share that information across the network," says Erickson.
Variety of insurance options

The Wind Crest medical center accepts Medicare and most supplemental insurance plans. Residents also enjoy access to Erickson Advantage, a nationally recognized Medicare Advantage plan exclusive to Erickson Senior Living residents.

"The number of benefits included in Erickson Advantage is phenomenal, including transportation to twelve specialists a year, zero copays on our care, and assistance from a care coordinator," says Erickson.

"I had surgery more than a year-and-a-half ago, and I never received a bill. All of my expenses were completely covered by Erickson Advantage," says Frank. "It's good coverage."
