Fantastic Activities Draw Former Residents of a 55-Plus Community to Siena Lakes

December 9, 2024

For more than a decade, Becky and Bob Osterberg looked for the perfect continuing care retirement community for them. They searched throughout the country, but they just couldn't find what they wanted--until they visited Siena Lakes, the Erickson Senior Living community in Naples, Fla.

"It's a fabulous community," says Becky. "The housing is great. The location is fantastic. The activities they have here are beyond comparison. Everything we heard and learned about it was exactly what we were looking for!"

Worry-free living

The Osterbergs moved from Tidewater by Del Webb--a 55-plus community in Estero, Fla.--to their maintenance-free residence at Siena Lakes more than two years ago.

Now, home repairs and landscaping are things of the past.

"We were responsible for all the upkeep on our duplex [at Tidewater]," says Bob. "We had to have someone take care of the pool. They did the outside maintenance, but it wasn't comprehensive--we still had to do a lot of outside stuff."

Thanks to the worry-free lifestyle at Siena Lakes, the couple can spend their free time swimming in or lounging by the pool--without having to clean or maintain it.

And if they need as much as a light bulb replaced or an air filter changed, they make one call to General Services and a staff member will come quickly.

More for your money

Becky says that Tidewater offered no dining options, but Siena Lakes has four restaurants right on campus. They're also able to utilize a dining plan that is reasonable and covered by their monthly service package.

"I love not having to cook anymore!" says Becky. "And Bob loves having no clean up."

The couple also appreciates having just one bill to pay.

"We save on things we don't have to pay for separately anymore. It's all included--like cleaning services, utilities, cable, outside maintenance, and more," says Becky. "You get a lot for your money. It's a grand lifestyle."

Engaging activities

Becky and Bob have gotten involved in a number of clubs and activities at the community--just steps from their one-bedroom, one-and-a-half-bath with den residence.

Becky plays the card game Hand and Foot with neighbors and visits the pool. Bob plays bocce with friends and has even participated in a team tournament.

"It's a fun, casual game and a great way to interact with people," he says.

What they enjoy most, though, is attending parties, special dinners, and entertainment nights.

"We take advantage of those," says Becky. "We like going to dinners such as French or Italian Night. We like the many types of entertainment, whether it's on campus or at the bar. We just love it."

"We've got a very long list of friends now," says Bob, pointing to the abundance of social opportunities at Siena Lakes.

Safe and secure

Becky and Bob have experienced hurricanes before, but they've never felt as safe and secure as they do at Siena Lakes.

"We experienced our first hurricane here four weeks after we moved in," says Becky. "I was incredibly impressed by the staff--how resilient and attentive they were to us and our needs. We always had food. They even had ways for us to recharge our phones."

With a generator that provided power to common areas, Becky says, "There was a lot of activity in the clubhouse. It was great to go there and be with other people. We could always go somewhere where they had power for us."

Healthy living

The couple is also glad they can receive health care at the medical center on campus.

"The focus on well-being at Siena Lakes is much more comprehensive than anything that was available at our previous community," says Becky. "Their intentions were positive, but they're just outclassed by the resources here."

Both Becky and Bob see Dr. Tom Morris, Siena Lakes' medical director, as their primary care physician. They love that if they need a same-day appointment, they can call and almost always be accommodated.

"The spotlight on health here is significant," says Becky. "If you want to take advantage of a healthy lifestyle, you really can and be better off for it."

‘More of everything'

Approaching their third year at Siena Lakes, the Osterbergs couldn't be more grateful to live in a welcoming community that offers so many amenities and services.

"It's like family here," says Bob.

"It's like comparing the minor leagues versus the major leagues because there's more of everything at Siena Lakes," says Becky. "Everything here is on a much grander scale."
