"Perfect" is the word Barry Burke uses to describe his one-bedroom apartment home at Seabrook, an Erickson Senior Living community in Tinton Falls, N.J. "It's exactly what I was looking for," he says.
When he first visited Seabrook for a luncheon and tour, Barry was impressed by the one-bedroom Brighton floor plan--especially the charming view from the extra large picture window in the living room.
"I looked out the window and saw a nice walkway that people were strolling along, a garden, and a play area for visiting grandchildren," he says. "As a grandfather, that was appealing to me."
Barry also loved the open and airy layout, roomy walk-in closet, and bedroom--large enough to also accommodate his desk, bookshelf, and printer.
"One of the great aspects of the Brighton is the amount of space it offers," says Sales Director Dan Simms. "The living area has room for residents and friends to sit comfortably, and a dining table can fit as well."
He continues, "Living at Seabrook is more affordable than many people realize. We have a wide range of apartment homes, including studios and one-bedrooms, to suit every budget and lifestyle. When people visit the community, they're often surprised to learn how much value they can get for their money--and what a great lifestyle they can enjoy here."
The right time
After spending 16 years in a 55-plus community in Lakewood, N.J., Barry was ready to embrace a maintenance-free, active lifestyle closer to his two kids and grandchildren.
He continues, "I was also looking for a place where there'd be plenty of people I could interact with. During my visit, all the residents and staff members I ran into were very friendly. I was greeted with a smile and a warm hello from everyone I saw. After my visit, I knew it was time to move."
Groups for every interest
He adds, "When I learned that Seabrook has more than 100 groups and activities, I knew I'd found my next home. So many of them matched my interests. And without having to worry about repairs, I'd have more time to get involved!"
Now, Barry is among hundreds of retirees who enjoy a vibrant, active lifestyle at Seabrook--thanks to the community's maintenance-free apartment homes. He sings with a vocal group and invites friends over weekly to play Rummikub, a game he learned during a Beginners Game Night at Seabrook.
Room for everything
Like Barry, Eileen Dandorf was eager to have a maintenance-free, active lifestyle. After touring a number of retirement communities, she knew that Seabrook was the best choice for her.
"I called my children and let them know that I was going to make the move to Seabrook," she recalls. "I was so excited!"
Once she reserved her one-bedroom apartment home, she started preparing for her move. First, she needed to sell her house in Greenbriar, a 55-plus community. Simms connected her with local vendors--a real estate agent and moving company, both experienced with helping retirees move to Seabrook.
Amy Sharpe, Seabrook's planning and moving consultant, worked closely with Eileen, informing her that there was plenty of room for the furniture she wanted to bring.
"Believe it or not, I have my king-size bed here--that's how large the rooms are," she says. "I brought my bedroom furniture, my desk and chair for my work, and an electric fireplace that I didn't want to part with."
Eileen is particularly fond of her beautiful kitchen, with its white cabinets and stainless-steel appliances. She opted for a pantry instead of a breakfast nook, as she cooks often.
More outside your door
Now, Eileen is active in her new community, teaching Irish dancing on Tuesdays, swimming in the aquatics center, and using exercise bikes in the fitness center. She attends Sunday mass, meets friends for dinner, and enjoys performances in the theater.
"My neighbors are the best part! When you buy a house or move into an apartment complex, you don't know what your neighbors are like. Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you don't," she says. "Here, I'm the luckiest person! Everyone is wonderful."
