Seabrook Priority List Members Plan with Confidence

Seabrook

For many years, Joe Lobosco believed that a move to a retirement community was something far in his future. In early 2023, though, he changed his mind after attending a luncheon at Seabrook, an Erickson Senior Living community in Tinton Falls, N.J. During the visit, he enjoyed the opportunity to connect with current residents, visit with them in their stylishly furnished homes, and walk around the beautifully landscaped and well-maintained campus.

"That's when I started to seriously think about moving to the community," he says.

After attending a few more events, Joe joined Seabrook's Priority List to secure his place in line for a home at the popular community. For a fully refundable $1,000 deposit, Joe could dictate the time frame for his move from a 55+ community in Middletown, N.J., while enjoying numerous opportunities to learn more about life at Seabrook.

Joe's decision to make the move earlier was also motivated by his sister's experience, one he did not wish to repeat.

"In my experience, it can be traumatic and challenging for families when a move is made out of necessity, and often family members don't agree," he says. "I wanted to make the decision myself. I can live here and be independent. If I ever need greater levels of care, it's all here at Seabrook."

By joining the Seabrook Priority List, Joe enjoyed the time and access to the information he needed to make the best decision for himself.

The gift of time

"The Priority List serves as our wait list," explains Seabrook's Sales Director Brian Cassidy. "When a member's chosen residence becomes available, they are at the top of the list with the right of first refusal over others who joined after them."

If they're not ready to move at that time, the home is simply offered to the next member on the list and their Priority List status remains the same.

"But the Priority List is so much more than a wait list," Cassidy explains. "It's a chance to get a feel for the community. Our events provide members a chance to experience Seabrook while they are making this important life decision. Often, they also end up building a social network while they are here."

Throughout the year, Seabrook hosts a variety of social and informational events exclusively for Priority List members. A "meet and mingle" event at the Essex Pub provided a sample of Seabrook's delicious menu options, including hot hors d'oeuvres and specialty drinks, while a luncheon in the meeting room introduced visitors to the executive team while providing a taste of midday menu items.

In addition, members are welcome to join any of the community's hundreds of activities, including lectures held by the Seabrook Active Learner's group, a music or theater performance, or an exercise class in the fully equipped fitness center.

Priority List members also enjoy the opportunity to schedule a Live the Life stay, providing the opportunity to live on campus for one or two nights while enjoying access to the same amenities and services as current Seabrook residents. During the visit, guests are provided a personalized itinerary based on their interests, and they can enjoy meals with current residents.

The right decision

Joe was pleased to meet other members looking forward to a future move to Seabrook. He also met residents who shared their personal experiences and, once he moved to the community, helped him settle into his new home.

"Coincidentally, my new next-door neighbor was at the coffee event I attended. I had no idea which building she lived in," he says. "When I moved in, she was right there, next door to me. We've become great friends!"

Joe also enjoyed access to Erickson Realty and Moving Services for help making a seamless move to Seabrook. He worked with Planning and Moving Consultant Amy Sharpe, who visited him in his former home to help him determine what to move to his spacious two-bedroom, two-bath Jackson floor plan. Amy also provided advice on downsizing and donating items to a local charity.

Thanks to all the careful preparation, Joe enjoyed a stress-free move and quickly immersed himself in Seabrook's community life. In fact, his son compares Seabrook to "living on a cruise ship." And in some ways, it is. Joe plays bocce regularly and attends educational lectures. He also finds he never has to dine alone.

"There's no place like Seabrook," he says. "I looked at other CCRCs [continuing care retirement communities], and they don't provide the amenities that Seabrook offers. There's no other place in this area that gives you your own space, where you're totally independent. And as your needs change, you know there is assisted living and higher levels of care available. And the food is always good!"
