Riderwood Residents and Employees Give Generously Throughout the Holiday Season

December 20, 2021

At Riderwood, an Erickson Senior Living managed community in Silver Spring, MD, community members enjoy a passion for making a positive difference in the lives of their neighbors and members of the local community. Throughout the year, numerous, resident-run efforts illustrate this generosity including teaching English, working at the Treasure Chest, and volunteering at the campus television station.

"We have hundreds of resident volunteers who dedicate their time to helping others all year long," says community resource manager Fiona Divecha. "These dedicated community members volunteer their time in a variety of ways, including service on various resident committees; leading resident clubs and activities; working with Riderwood’s diverse religious communities; and offering their support to a wide range of local organizations.”

During the holiday season, Riderwood’s spirit of generosity grows exponentially through a variety of annual efforts designed to meet specific needs within the local community.

This November, members of the Riderwood community participated in an annual Turkey Trot, donating all money raised to the Maryland Food Bank. This year, more than 60 local community members enjoyed a delicious Thanksgiving meal as a result of these efforts.

Currently, in preparation for the impending harsh weather, members of Riderwood’s talented Needlecrafters group are currently collecting both store bought and handmade mittens, hats, gloves, and scarfs as part of their Mitten Tree project. All of the donated items will be given to members of the local community.

“Even during this busy time of the year, residents are so generous with their time, talents and treasures, not only to do good in the world, but to also feel good in the world,” says Jeff Watson, Erickson Senior Living’s Director of Operations. It’s this spirit of kindness that always radiates throughout our campuses and enables those who call Riderwood home to make a joyful difference in the lives of so many.”
