Riderwood Honors 880 Residents Who Gave a Total of 153,000 Volunteer Hours in the Past Year

SILVER SPRING, MD (April 27, 2012) - Riderwood retirement community has honored 880 residents who gave a total of 153,000 volunteer hours in the past year. The residents led more than 200 activities and special interest groups, volunteered  at community events, participated in outreach projects and/or worked with Riderwood's departments throughout the 120-acre campus in Silver Spring, MD.  The residents averaged 12,750 volunteer hours per month.
In addition, the residents volunteered a total of 17,500 hours at the Renaissance Gardens extended care neighborhood at Riderwood, averaging 1,460 volunteer hours per month.
Riderwood contributed a total of $1,500 to Meals on Wheels chapters in College Park, Colesville and Takoma Park in the name of the resident volunteers, who were thanked by staff at a special recognition luncheon held in the campus' Performance Hall.
According to the AARP, if Riderwood were to compensate its resident volunteers financially for their generous contributions of time, the cost per hour for each volunteer would be $22.32. Overall, the residents' total volunteer hours would be $3.8 million.
