Maris Grove Residents Donate $95,000 for Scholarships to Local Students

June 7, 2016

GLEN MILLS, Pa. On Sunday, May 22, Maris Grove hosted family, residents, friends and staff at their annual Scholars' Awards Ceremony. At this year's event, 14 graduating high school seniors were recognized as 2016 recipients of a $6,000 scholarship from Maris Grove residents.

In 10 years, close to $1 million has been raised to support 150 students to advance their collegiate careers, according to Barbara Burri, philanthropy director for Maris Grove.  The program is funded primarily through resident contributions. This year, residents and resident clubs contributed $95,000 to the Maris Grove Scholars' Fund.

The scholarships are presented in an effort to reward exemplary students who have shown a commitment to serving Maris Grove and its residents. Students who are eligible for the scholarship must have worked at least 1,000 hours at the community during their junior and senior years of high school, achieved satisfactory grades, build positive relationships with residents and maintain a strong employment record.

Joe Guidetti, director of dining services at Maris Grove, spoke at the ceremony regarding his student employees.

"My most gratifying experiences have always been watching the 14, 15, and 16 year old students come into our community to begin their very first job," he said. "Over time, residents and staff have the opportunity to help mentor the students at a young age and as the years pass we watch these students grow into exceptional adults."
